Re: World Group 1st round: France at Canada (February 10-12, 2012)

For Canada, Raonic and Pospisil don't have any contenders for singles matches. Dancevic is not in good shape. For doubles, Nestor is still the one. But one day, i would like to see Shamasdin play with him. I know it's a problem to take two doubles players in the final team but i think it could be a great association for Canada.
For France, Tsonga and Monfils are the good ones for singles but if monfils can't play, i would call Gasquet. For doubles, Llodra and Benneteau is a proven association. But one day, i think Mahut could have his chance. He play well this week with Roger_Vasselin in Mtpellier. And if this duet, who has expereicen to play together since long time, will have good result in the futur, it could be a great oportunity. I'm little tired of Llodra lol

If Monfils is out Benneteau or Llodra could certainly play the 2nd singles. Both have a high chance of winning at least 1 match given they both consider Davis Cup very important. The only issue would be fatigue. In any case my theory relies on Jo winning both his matches. Nestor+anybody is a dangerous doubles pair. So they might actually lose the doubles and have to win another singles to win the tie. On the Canadian side, Raonic is probably going to give his all and try to win both his matches as well. You never know with Davis Cup but I expect France to deliver this eventually.

Yes, that's what French captain Forget said.

Monfils is in Canada now, then Gasquet will not be called (he was the one who would have come if Monfils had been out, Forget had said).

But if Monfils has a problem, Forget has already said that Llodra and Benneteau were good enough to play and win a single.

had knee problem in Montpellier, it seems that he's OK to play but not sure + arrived later than the other players and may have problems with the jetlag.

that's why Forget said maybe Benneteau or Llodra will play against Raonic.

By the way, French captain said that the surface is not as fast as they thought. It's "intermediate" in his opinion.

Re: World Group 1st round: France at Canada (February 10-12, 2012)

I was just going by raph72's post. Monfils played all week in France. It'll be diffucult for him to travel that far and get used to the conditions quickly. Plus it's best of 5, so even more difficult with the 9hr difference jetlag.

As for Jo's mohawk, I guess he figured better now than later after seeing Roddick in Australia.

Personally, I think that Benneteau should play on Friday. He, and France, have a mental edge over Raonic, after that Paris indoors win last November, and it would be a good opportunity for France to claim a big 2-0 lead going into Saturday.

No question that Monfils CAN beat Raonic but, with all the injury problems and mental lapses, it is a greater risk imo. Benneteau's nerves can be a real problem at times, but otherwise he is a very steady player with good net skills, and a tougher match-up for Raonic imo.

But I suppose the risk is that Benneteau could be tired for the doubles, and France really should be aiming to win that match (even if 2-0 ahead after Friday).
