Wildcards

Who will pick them up?

6 French, 1 Australian and 1 American ones.

So, IMO:

Mathieu (if he doesn't use his PR)
Rufin
Mannarino
Clement
Genesse
Ouanna
Duckworth (AT)
*who knows?* (USTA)

RIP Henry Chinaski. A true MTF legend

Re: Wildcards

Serra is more likely over Gensse. Mathieu won't use his PR here, FFT will secure him a WC as they have in previous events and this week. I agree with the other picks, but if Gensse gets one, I think it's either over Mannarino or Ouanna.

I read on here Rufin may choose to qualify if he and his team feel he hasn't earned a WC. If that happens then that will open up a WC for another player.

A kind reader brought my attention to a recent posting on usta.com that explains how this year's French Open wild cards will be determined. One men's and one women's wild card are available to the USTA via a reciprocal agreement with the French Open, and in past years there have been wild card tournaments held to decide the winner. This year, instead of an invitational tournament, the wild cards will be decided based on points amassed at three(women) or two(men) Pro Circuit clay court events this month. For more details, see the USTA Pro Circuit home page.

Re: Wild Cards

Then it will be between Russell and Sweeting, most probably. Hopefully Mikey can get it.

Among French players Clement is a certainty as it's probably his final year on Tour and he's been a very important French player. Maybe also France's future Davis cup captain.
Mathieu is nearly sure as well.

Ouanna has done very well in the beginning of this year, and I think already in Monte-Carlo Rufin has found some good form then I think he will ask this wild-card in the end.

Mannarino if he's fit yes.

Re: Wild Cards

Mannarino is useless on clay. A wild-card for him would be a waste.

What about Eric? He's the best ranked French player without a direct entry, and he's from Paris. He should get a WC.

Re: Wild Cards

Don't like the USTA decision since Blake and Querrey are in Sarasota draw.
In 2nd round, Kudla will likely play James and Sweeting may play Querrey.

Prodon has a 0% chance at a WC.

Re: Wild Cards

USTA is not relying on a player getting hot for one mini-event. They're making players earn their WCs without any doubt. I like it, personally. It's up to the guys to step up and handle their business.

Prodon ? He has a poor season and does't have one last year when he was doing well on challengers. Prodon said he prefers to play challengers in SA or Poland than the ones in France well I mean he's not a priority for FFT.

Rufin and Mathieu are almost sure.

Re: Wild Cards

Yeah, sorry. I was talking about Prodon.

That's not fair with Eric Usually he has doubles WC on RG, even if his doubles skills are awful, and he used to have qualy WC when he had a lower ranking due to injuries. Maybe Eric will get MD WC if he achieves some good results the next weeks and is ranked inside the top-100 when FFT announces them. In that case, it would be really unfair to not give one to him.

And well, most of French challengers are on indoor hard, so it's normal Eric doesn't play them and prefers to stay on clay.

He should get one, considering his last performance in a big event in France.

Re: Wild Cards

Blake and Querrey don't need the WC. They have direct entry into MD.
