Seeing how the Rogers Cup coming up next week, I figure I dedicate a thread to the tournament itself and we can use this thread for next year. So why not make an official thread for Rogers Cup related stuff. This way, we can talk about the event itself and the Canadian players instead of going through seperate thread regarding each Canadian players.

Anyways, Tennis Canada announced the wildcards for main draw and qualifiers.

For main draw, the wildcards go to,
-Vasek Pospisil
-Peter Polansky
-Frank Dancevic

For qualifers, the wildcards go to,
-Erik Chvojka
-Pierre Ludovic Duclos
-Filip Peliwo
-Steven Diez

Interesting note, Erik Chvojka's rank was good enough to get in directly into qualifiers but chose to take a qualifing wildcard. Had Erik chose to get in qualifiers off his rank, the other wildcard could've went to Phillip Bester.

In other news, Rafael Nadal, Fernando Verdasco, Gael Monfils and David Ferrer pulled out of Rogers Cup. Maybe there will be more withdrawals to come.

No TV to see the match, only able to know scores via ATPworldtour.com

Surprise, Peter leads 5-0, and has 3 set points :worship:

EDIT: He got it :) 6-0

Points won in 1st set: 25-6 PP. He went to deuce and A, explaining why he has 25 instead of 24. Ebden won 3 points in the game, half of this set's.

Oh. My. Goodness.
is anyone here really surprised?

Even with the fast start i fully expected him to lose. He is not capable of beating guys ranked above him..thats the way it seems anyway
any of you guys watch it?

Peter did absolutely nothing to win the first set. I think he had like 1 winner the entire set. He just hit the ball in play a couple times and Ebden made an error.

In the 2nd and 3rd sets Ebden played better, Peter maybe had his level drop slightly but not much, he has no real weapons so eventually Ebden took control of the point.

Peter definately didn't choke anything, against any decent opponent he wouldn't have won set 1. Ebden was the worst I've ever seen anyone play a set:eek:

I give a thumbs down to Polansky yesterday. He played too passive I think. It seemed either he didn't believe he could win it or didn't want it bad enough. I felt he had no weapons overall to hurt Ebden.

Thumbs up to Vasek for gutting a win against Seppi. I didn't think Vasek would win this match. Good thing he proved me wrong. Anyways, thumbs up for Vasek winning. He really had a dramatic way of doing it. When Vasek turns on his game at full cylinders, his game is really good I think. He has a good serve and can volley pretty good. He has wheels which gave fits to Seppi. I did notice Vasek would run around his backhand and play his forehand mostly. His serve when on is good but most of the match he was inconsistent. He needs to works on his first serve more.

I watched the match. It was mostly Kukushkin playing really well. Kuku attacked Dancevic's backhand a lot and not to mention, Frank's return of serve was pitiful and got outrallied most of the time.

I really thought Dancy could've won this game. I'm afraid we will keep seeing these kind of performances from Franky from hereon.

Over here in Montreal, I saw young Brayden Schnur practising with Ana Ivanovic, which must have been a thrill for him. Unfortunately when she was practising receiving he had difficulty getting his serves in, which must have been embarrassing. She was chatting a bit with him, asking him what he's doing and so on. He even got to play a practice set with her.

As I was leaving today I saw Fred playing on the practice courts with I think it was Agostinelli. I'm not sure if it was him or not but he was half decent, and when he made an error he said C'Mon Bruno!!!

Haven't heard from Bruno in a while, he retired a while ago to coach for tennis canada didn't he?

Fred's still got it, he was playing pretty well, not top tier well obviously, but he could probably maintain a ranking around 500 imo

I heard they'll be giving out 3 wildcards this year which one of them will go to Gael Monfils. I'm assuming the other two will go to Canadians players.

my predictions
for the Maindraw:
WC for Monfils
WC for Pospisil
WC for Levine

Qualies: My predictions
WC for Pokracac
WC for Polansky
WC for Peliwo
WC for Diez
Dancevic can make the qualies draw with his ranking.

I'm hoping to come up and watch the tournament for a day, probably quarterfinal day (day matches)

I'm about 2 hrs away so no hotel needed :woohoo:

Jesse Levine made a comment 3 or 4 years ago saying he is completely and 100% American. Therefore, a lot of us don't care for him at all, myself included.
I know, that's the stuff I'm talking about, so what if he said that when he was an American, why wouldn't he, he's not going to say he's Canadian is he.

but Tennis Canada should be given WCs to Canadians..although I do understand Monfils.
If you are referring to Levine, he is Canadian last I checked, if you can understand Monfils, why not Levine.

I am saying give Levine one, but the last one. Check this post from page 4. You seem to be confused sadly.

I am also saying I do not cheer for him. I don't cheer against him and its nice to see him do well, but I would never get up early to watch him play, but I do often to see Milos or Vasek play.

Ideally WCs should be granted by merit/past-performance etc. all over the world.

But other countries hoard WCs for their scrubs in their national opens, so should Canada. At the very least they should only be traded for a reciprocal opportunity for a Canadian WC to play a big tournament somewhere else in the world. I know they have done this on the women's side.

yep, this happens on the ATP tour as well.

What is it, four WCs for the main draw and four for qualies? My hopes/expectations would be Pospisil, Levine, Dancevic, and Peliwo (given his form in Lexington this week) for the main draw; and Polansky, Diez, Bester, and Chvojka for the qualies. (If Polansky, Diez, Bester, or Chvojka make a semi-final or better run in Vancouver, give him the WC instead of Peliwo, if possible with timing involved.)

Me too - give our Canadian boys a chance to pull an upset at the highest level.
