Re: Steven Diez

He's in the final now with a 3 set win over the 3 seed, will face and unseeded player in the final, I find it odd that its Thursday and this tournament only has the final left which I assume will be tomorrow, futures sometimes have their finals on Saturday, this is the first I'm hearing of a Friday final though

Well at least he's finally found some consistency at some level.

Re: Steven Diez

Has done it - won three of three Futures in consecutive weeks.

Diez will reach about No. 213 in the rankings after this week.

Re: Steven Diez

that one hurts, he actually served for the match and was wuite comfortable on serve in that final set right up tunil the end.

he also was applying constant pressure in his return games but just couldnt get the second break

Nice job for Steve to find a way to get the win, 7-5 in the 3rd.

Re: Steven Diez

Nice win for Diez, he's playing pretty well on hard, possibly better than he is on clay.

This is his 1st slam qualies isn't it?

Hopefully he can come through and qualify so I won't be so pissed about Frank since a Canadian would get through that section anyway but I highly doubt it. Marti next round won't be impossible though, he could get to round 3. Don't see him beating Brands though

Re: Steven Diez

Good result

Glad that at least one of him and Frank managed to pull it out. I figure he's got a shot against a clay-court guy in Marti, but qualifying seems like it will be a big ask.

Re: Steven Diez

Diez is playing qualifying for the Brasilian Open this week. He was in qualifying for the ATP 250 event in Chile last week, wonder if he will have a go for each of the Golden Swing tourneys.

We care about him more in Canada just 'cause there are fewer quality players here to care about, unlike in Spain which is nicely spoiled with talent. I think though Spain's reign at the very top (like Sweden's in the late 80s) is about to end - they will drop down to be more like France (which is still pretty good!) but hopefully not as far down as Sweden's.
