Re: Steven Diez

I saw him today in Cesena, some nice shots and some shouts in Spanish, gave a 6-2 to Di Mauro and then took two consecutive breadsticks with loads of errors.. a nice player overall, but not a great self-control for what I have seen today

Re: Steven Diez

What is it with how much better Italian players play on home soil? Diez maintains his results streak of a really good week followed by a poor one.

Re: Steven Diez

As we have come to expect from Steve. Although in this case it is maybe more justified, as he is probably tired after his efforts of last week and travelling from Poland.

Re: Steven Diez

does anyone here see Steven Diez cracking the top 100 or 200 in his career?

He's so wickedly inconsistent now that i would have to say no to top 100 but yes to top 200

he's got more problems than just consistency to work out too.

Re: Steven Diez

I would not say winning a tourney one week then not doing well the next isn't very inconsistent compared to many others, it's rare that a player will win tourney's in back to back weeks, most of the time they just don't have the fitness to do it, it's fatigue, not ability which is why they don't do it.

yeah but its not even about this week alone its about his entire career having the same inconsistent pattern

Re: Steven Diez

Diez is into the quarters of a Challenger for just his second time (first time was his first ever Challenger played, in 2009). Faces unseeded Mertens next too, so would seem to have a decent chance to go a round further.

Re: Steven Diez

Hopefully Diez can continue this form and go up the ranks! I want him in the top 200. Actually I want Polansky, Chvojka, PLD, Diez, Pokrajac, Bester, Peliwo all in the top 200! If only it could happen!

Re: Steven Diez

Canada is at its deepest ever for men's tennis. In the late 80s there were seven top 350 players (Michibata, Connell, Laurendeau, Pridham, Wostenholme, Sznajder, and Bonneau), at a time when there were only about a thousand ranked players, and now there are 9 who should be there (Raonic, Pospisil, Dancevic, Polansky, Chvojka, PLD, Bester, Diez, and Peliwo), when there are almost two thousand ranked players world-wide. I say all the current nine could get inside the top 300 at one time, and maybe the top 250, though one or two will be injured at any one time, most likely.

Forgot Pokrajac - make it an even 10.

Re: Steven Diez

Good effort by Diez. He's got nothing really to defend after this week until November, so hopefully he can continue to progress in skills and in ranking.
