I think we should have a chat thread about anything off topic here.

Like the Leafs for example, 2 losses in a row:eek:

looking for votes in the PopCon, every vote counts:wavey:

There are a couple other posters who post here often who were nominated, and can currently be voted for like misty1, Lee, Snowwy, and ibreak4coffee. Just bold the names of who you want to vote for.

1) We are reinforcing all stereotypes about Canadians here ;)
2) How about that amazing Real Madrid-Barcelona game this Saturday. No one? Really?
3) Leafs will finish 7th and get steamrolled in the first round. But I'm seeing great things so far.
4) Don Cherry is the worst thing to ever come out of Canada
5) Curling is boring - except at the Olympics
6) Please vote in the MTF Canada 2012 Predictions thread :)

I will vote for you all in the popcon - even you Snowwy "who cant vote because I have to try and remain impartial" :)

Did Barcelona win? And I really enjoy Don Cherry, even though I frequently disagree, he does raise some good points. I will vote in the prediction thread, just haven't had any time lately and probably won't until Christmas.

i'm surprised to hear from Mike though that soccer is the #1 of most actively played sports there... i'd give hockey a try or some us-related sports... i know Alex' Wozniak dad was a pro player and this is why they emigrated from poland to canada...
It's been that way for a while. Soccer is really cheap with nighttime practice whereas hockey is expensive and has 6 AM practices. If you were a parent, which would you choose?

I was thinking a few weeks ago that there needs to be a chat thread here :bounce:
Nice work, Serve

The thread needs a more exciting name... like "Coffee and Donuts Canadian chat" or "Hoser Chat for CDNs and their non-skating pals" :p

Andre, i didnt see your pics, been awfully busy, but i know you're in fact half european with the amount of time you spend on the "old continent"

funny thing is that you guys don't have a pro volleyball league (only college) and one of the best volleyball coaches in the world is Canadian :)

as for voting, other mods do it without a problem... but i can get where the point to abstain comes from and gets my respect

Don't you guys find it sad that our country's culture is just a sum of dumb stereotypes? (maple syrup, beavers, hockey, winter, eh, indians, celine dion,...).

I mean, what other country in the world has a cheap donuts shop as a national icon?

I guess it has to do with being a young country. Australia has pretty much the same problem. (kangaroos, boomerangs, beaches,...)

There are only a couple left in New York - most closed within 6 months.

And as you say - you didnt know it was Canadian. With excuses to our friends in Maine, Ohio, and Michigan where Timmy's is popular, that was my point ;) And Nathaliia next time you're here in NYC I'll take you for a double double!

People associate McDonalds with the US - Tim Hortons is even more important to Canada than McDonalds to the US (or Dunkin for that matter) and yet its not a national symbol except to Canadians and expat Canadians like myself.

I'm serious by the way about calling this the Double Double Tards Thread :)

I just wanted to wish all of you guys a happy holiday. I hope you have a good one and i hope your all safe and i'll see you in the new year, since this will more than likely be my last visit here this year. I'm off to visit my grandpa.

also i thought i'd share my new years resolution : its to try and be more positive. That includes here, in my posts...since i know my almost constant negativitity tends top get on some peoples nerves.

You want a more obscure Canadian reference -- how about the Bill Barilko Memorial Chat thread? Just watch the hits on his wikipedia page go up from MTF members looking him up. :p

Most concussions aren't a result of fighting but of akward hits to the head. Fighting can reduce the number of hits because the players kno if they take a cheap shot on someone which could cause a concussion then they're gonna have to pay via fight. How substrancially it reduces it is unknown, but it's not just as simple as "ban fighting and all will be well", it's a complicated issue

it's been a hot topic lately because studies have shown that nhl fighters often end up having brain complications later in life. 3 current(well not current anymore but they were current at the time) nhl fighters committed suicide this past offseason too. Plus like Snowwy said the league's best player, rookie of the year last year, and this years current goal leafs and points leaders are all out with concussions currently(4 different very important players all at the same time). They weren't a result of fights, but getting punched in the head repeatadly can never be good when it comes to concussions.

It's a hot topic for the NHL atm, but I don't suspect that fighting will be banned for at least 5 years though I do see it happening sometime down the road, just not sure when.

Personally, I hoep it stays, the players who partake in a fight, know the risks beforehand, and accept them. This is vastly different from getting a concussion after being blindside hit with an elbow. You don't have an option there.
