I guess it has to do with being a young country. Australia has pretty much the same problem. (kangaroos, boomerangs, beaches,...)

Familiarity breeds contempt. It seems like crap to us because it's our everyday lives.

I mean, I hear people go on about how beautiful, exotic and 'cultural' Indian saris are... but to the women there, it's just what they wear everyday -- like jeans and tshirt to us. We fawn over Asia's noodle and rice dishes (which they eat every day), while they dream of Big Macs and fries.

I haven't been to Tim Horton's in over a year and I don't miss it.

You want a more obscure Canadian reference -- how about the Bill Barilko Memorial Chat thread? Just watch the hits on his wikipedia page go up from MTF members looking him up.

The time has come for me to pander and shill for votes in the PopCon contest from my fellow Double Double tards. Votes can be made here - PopCon 2011 VOTING - Round 3 (CLOSED)

I need all the help I can get so even if you hate me - and I know that's the majority here - just this once as the great Dr. Evil once said "Throw me a freckin' bone"

Can't believe how many top nhl players have concusions. Best player, top rookie last year, top goal scorer this year and top point scorer this year, all in the last couple days.

The NHL is broken... to think otherwise is to deny reality.

I personally vomit everytime there is a fight during a hockey game - in this sense I am clearly part of the 1%

The sooner fighting is eliminated the better.

An interesting question though, does fighting limit the number of runs players take at players? Would it if there was no instigating rule? It's not as black and white as getting rid of fighting and concussions will be gone.

Re: Off Topic Chat Thread

Most concussions aren't a result of fighting but of akward hits to the head. Fighting can reduce the number of hits because the players kno if they take a cheap shot on someone which could cause a concussion then they're gonna have to pay via fight. How substrancially it reduces it is unknown, but it's not just as simple as "ban fighting and all will be well", it's a complicated issue
