If Frank can't go, we are left we Pops lined up for 3 matches (huge risk IMO since rubber #5, no matter if odds are against us, is still key) or Peliwo. Yikes. Nothing against Filip, but think Serbia would have the luxery of playing either 1. Djoker for a light 60-80 min "practice session" or 2. playing Lajovic with a pretty sure win as well.

Of course if we knew 100% certain that Djoker wasn't going to play Friday, and Frank was hurt, I say go all-in & try to win the first 3 rubbers with Pops against Lajovic on Friday .. if it doesn't work out, oh well. Unfortunately don't think Serbia is going to tip their hand on Djoker's intention :-).
if Frank is hurt his chance of winning on friday would for from 1% to 0%... i mean he could always take one for the team and tough it out or even withdraw half way through if we dont want vasek going 3 straight days. its not that much of an issue because the chances of frank beating novak are slim to none either way

They wouldn't throw in Lajovic instead of Nole if they knew it was Filip as our #2.

If this was done before the draw then lajovic would be their #2 and play Milos while Vasek as our #2 would get Tipsy their #1(since Nole didn't play). If they subbed in Lajovic for Nole to play Filip after the draw was done then this could only happen due to a legimate injury and Nole could not play anymore during the tie which they wouldn't do for obvious reasons.

and in a similar fashion if we knew Lajovic was playing and not Nole on day 1, we couldn't just throw Vasek in there to play Lajovic. Lajovic would be their #2, Vasek would be our #2, if such a case where Lajovic and Vasek were both nominated they'd both play the opposite teams #1 and not each other.

So basically Lajovic v. Our #2 has almost 0% chance of happening on day 1.

Re: Davis Cup

oops, more-or-less the same mistake I made above re: DC rules (can't flip guys in-and-out at last minute except for legitimate injury etc.) .. thx for correction #2

Anyways, if Frank is hurt at all, my hope for his sake is he doesn't play... taking one for the team when its a sure loss against Nole isn't worth it ... he's been hurt enough, is not getting any younger, and might be playing his way back into top-100 again

Count me as surprised he's still going NCAA, with the results he's had this summer. Maybe he'll change his mind after a semester or two.

Do we know for sure he is going to school? I mean school has begun and he is playing a futures event in Canada.

Arash Madani tweeted that Novak told him personally that he would play Friday.

I don't understand the American University calendar either. Carol Zhao is playing in Quebec City this week, but she's going to Stanford.

Re: Davis Cup

Probably doing coursework through correspondence for now, only need to be present at uni. to play tennis. Schnur is playing at about World No. 450 level (he got soundly beat by the No. 379 today), he's hardly gonna do any better than Pospisil or Dancevic. Pospisil will play opening day and could take a set off Nole. I'd be tempted to play Dancy for the doubles if his wrist is truly okay, to give Pospisil the rest he should likely get.

Re: Davis Cup

Serbia replaced Lajovic with Bozoljac. Djokovic may play both singles in this case.

OMG look at that stadium.

A long way from trying to stay in Zone I at an empty Rexall just a few years ago.

Re: Davis Cup

Ok, let's just get this one over with fast so Vasek has something left for Sat & Sun. Djoker is obviously feeling good enough to coast through this & beat Milos on Sun.

Re: Davis Cup

Dang Novak is playing great.

Should have played Frank to keep Vasek fresh for the final two days.
