Re: Davis Cup

Tipsy was injured in the first tie and his wife had her debut fashion show in Belgrade during the second.

Re: Davis Cup

Re: Davis Cup

I would say. And for Pete's sake, play Dancy, either against Joker opening day or in doubles. No reason Vashy should go three in a row.

definitely not in doubles. We have to put our best team out there in doubles and although Frank is 3-0 in davis cup doubles you absolutely have to play Vasek/Daniel.

if he plays it has to be day 1 against Nole, but I wouldn't hate throwing Vasek out there either, I doubt losing in 3 sets is gonna tire him out

Re: Davis Cup

Frank against the joker for sure on day 1. Vasek is 100% teaming w daniel in the doubles. They are partners at the US open to prep for this, daniel basically dropped his partner to prepare for DC. Vasek was gassed after that van city. Mtl. Cincy run. Wouldnt want him going 3 in a row. We need him to beat janko. Milos beat janko. And a doubles win. Losses against novak wont matter. Altho imagine if frank pulled the biggest upset in davis cup history....

without a doubt it would. that was at home on hard court in a tie canada ended up losing and was not DC semis

frank would have won away on clay against the world number 1 in a DC semi and if he did win we would most likely win the tie and be vaulted into the DC finals. absolutely unthinkable

but of course the chances of this happening are about 1% so no sense in getting worked up over it

Re: Davis Cup

sure if you think the context/importance of the result, but pure upset? I think it's rather close, Nestor over Edberg is probably a bigger upset(though I wasn't born at the time, was born later that year so I wouldn't have the best opinion on that matter)

like i said no sense in arguing over it. i stand firm in believing franks upset would hypothetically be bigger. of course you need to consider the type of surface and country when considering how big the upset was. beating nadal on clay at the french open would be a MUCH bigger upset than beating him on grass at wimbledon.. canadians have never done much on clay so a win in serbia on the surface against the world number 1 would be that much more impressive

again we agree to disagree

Re: Davis Cup

Serbia has announced their team of Djokovic Tipsarevic Lajovic and Zimonjic... deadline for roster submission is 2pm GMT or 9am EST tomorrow so look for Canada's roster to be released soon

Obviously no surprises here. Can't see a scenario where its not Raonic-Pospisil-Dancevic-Nestor - Levine has been way off form of late

Re: Davis Cup

Well, after some disappointments in USO (Vasek choking in singles, Daniel messing up doubles with his serve - him & Vasek had a good a chance as any for going all the way, Milos losing the way he did), for Canadian content we now turn to DC.

From Twitter: The Canadian team to take on Serbia in the #DavisCup World Group semifinal is Milos Raonic, Vasek Pospisil, Frank Dancevic and Daniel Nestor - and yes, that was obvious. Now for lineup:

My vote:
Day #1: Milos vs. Tipsy; Frank vs Djoker
Day #2: Nestor / Vasek
Day #3: Milos vs Djoker; Vasek vs. Tipsy
.
Rationale: Odds are miniscule that Djoker doesn't get both his matches ... so we need to win all 3 other rubbers. Both Milos vs. Tipsy & Vasek/Daniel dubs are obviously our best shots there so it will (hopefully) come down to last rubber. I'm going with Vasek in #5 (hoping that with Marty coaching in between change-overs & Canadian team giving him huge moral support will help him with the nerves) .. and also insisting that he not play a no-win situation against Djoker on day#1 and wear himself out. Thoughts?

this has been my line up for months now, couldn't agree more with your post. also novak won't be getting to belgrade until wednesday night so maybe frank can jump all over him? our boys will have over a week of practise on clay where novak will have a day. also im confident marty and the team can calm vasek down in the 5th rubber if needed. wouldn't want vasek going 3 matches in 3 days

the fact that we are in this position is a small miracle when compared to where we were 3 years ago, we've already achieved so much and our expectations of our players are growing, which is a good thing
