He's actually in the worst form of the three at the moment (and lost to Dancevic just last month). If you want the player in the best current form to be the #2, that would be Levine as he's clearly played the best of the 3 in 2013.

Again, I ask, if he hasn't reached the heights of either Dancevic or Levine on tour and he's not playing anywhere near as well as them right now, what exactly makes him the "best" player?
Munoz is not ranked far worse than Vasek, they are ranked about the same.

His form has been pretty good, he has beaten Donskoy and played a very good match vs. Isner, his form when it's off is either because he doesn't have enough matchplay yet, or is still getting over mono, this week it looks like he may be back in form.

Wait, Levine lost to Dancevic last month too, so that must mean it should be Frank.

You really did not expect him to win his 1st match back vs. Frank did you.

Re: Davis Cup

re: Vasek, I suspect that as long as he continues to get his form back as at least a credible singles option - even a close 3rd (yesterday seemed like good start) he will get the nod by default because Nestor wants him as the doubles guy. So it is probably between Levine & Dancy. But as noted above, Vasek's current form hasn't been great so it is probably not a lock yet.

Re: Davis Cup

I agree that Vasek gets the nod anyway to play doubles.

The more I think about the this, the more I think Marty go with 'if it ain't broke don't fix it'. It is why the same venue was chosen as well. So as long as Jesse doesn't do two or three better - reach the round of sixteen or something - over Frank, then Frank gets it because of how he played against Granollers so recently and at the venue, and also, though a lesser consideration, because Frank played DC for Canada a lot of times when the toiled in the minors so to speak (mind there were a few controversies with that along the way) while Jesse has only paid dues once, last month. But if Jesse does two or three better than Frank this or next tournament, he should get the nod.

Re: Davis Cup

I'm not sure how to call this one. Raonic is favoured to win his two matches. I have no idea what Frank will do; he has to deal with expectations this time. The doubles match could make the difference.

Re: Davis Cup

On that, Vasek hit well despite losing today; Daniel lost early - have no idea how he played.

Re: Davis Cup

its most definately going to come down to doubles

if bolelli is okay to go i think id give the slight edge to the italians over daniel + vasek

milos should win both his match..key word there being should

i guess it all depends on who the second player for italy is. We all know seppi should be there. we might be better off if the second player is fognini, i think, on this surface bolelli would be the harder out.

Agree that doubles is more important this time. Against Spain, we did REALLY well to take the #2 team in the world to 5 sets ... particularly that it was Vasek's first match back. In general, I'd say the your slight edge to Italians is your pessimistic side coming out :-) ... Vasek has potential to be a REALLY, REALLY good doubles guy (wish he'd play more) and Daniel is .. well Daniel. Problem is, Daniel has had a poor year ... and you have to wonder if age is getting to him. So maybe you are right.

Re: Singles, (per thread in Dancy forum) I'd still go with Dancy on day #1 and make the call for either Dancy or Vasek on day#2 (hoping that the call doesn't matter).

Its the fact that daniel has been struggling this year that has be naming the italians the faves. If daniel was playing like he usually does i'd give the edge to canada but he's not and vasek cant carry them on his own. I agree..maybe age is catching up with daniel?
But also the italian combo of fognini/bolelli is really good and the fact that this is on hard doesnt hurt them because they've got great results on the hard court slams together

But i guess if simone cant even play it wont matter

Re: Davis Cup

We win, we get 4000 points ... which puts Canada in 7th I think ... ie. we are guaranteed to be seeded next year in World group. We lose, we are no better than 9th (Italy vaults past us and gets the seeding). So this is pretty important for us.

If your question is individual points, its 65 points per win ... see: http://www.daviscup.com/en/rankings/...ng-points.aspx
