I believe that is too long ago ... cut off is 1970 or thereabouts.

Re: Davis Cup

yeah I'm not sure whben the cutoff is but they changed the format or whatever a while back and evewrything before that no longer counted.

Canada hasn't played the US since so a drawing of lots was done which the US won(they won all their lots this year, lucky them).

Re: Davis Cup

I did not know that. Thank you both.

I still hope the US goes through though. Serbia away on clay is too much of a long shot.
It would be exciting to see what surface USA would elect if they both go through. They might actually be best off on clay!

A contributor said above in this thread, a few days ago, that ties prior to 1970 don't count.

Re: Davis Cup

We officially chose Vancouver for the tie against Italy, which makes sense to me.

Yeah, I think this is a good decision.

Re: Davis Cup

I'm glad they're playing in Vancouver again, Toronto and Montreal have their tourneys so this balances things out.

Re: Davis Cup

Ok now the competition for the last two spots on the DC team for QF is on (Milos & Nestor are locks) . And what do you know, all 3 of Dancy, Vasek, & Jesse win first round Q match at IW with a bagel set. Quite impressive! Didn't see any of the matches (not sure if there are streams), but think you have to give the edge to Dancy here because he had the toughest opponent. Would be great if all 3 could qualify.

Re: Davis Cup

All played well today, judging from the match stats. Selection really still depends on tomorrow and then next week. Maybe Marty L should have the three play-off for it the day before selection must be given, or even, literally, draw straws. I hope injury doesn't determine the matter. Where Jesse's the new guy, having him wait one or two more ties I suppose is morally justifiable at the same time. Then again, where he's highest ranked, he deserves the No. 2 singles spot. A tough choice all around.

I checked but couldn't find streams for today, btw. Hopefully there are for tomorrow, but I doubt there will be.

Re: Davis Cup

As long as Dancevic performs reasonably well in the next few weeks, I'd give the spot to him. He may be a frustrating underachiever who hasn't ever reached his potential, but he did get Canada to the QFs with his great play. I'd give him the opportunity to do it again.

Re: Davis Cup

Pospisil's the best of the 3, if he can show good form he should get it.

Dancevic has the highest career ranking of the three (65) and Levine was in the top 70 (which Pospisil has never reached) as recently as last fall, so I'm not quite sure what that statement is based on.

You are going by career high ranking that was in the past, you should be going by current form, it's based on him having the most talent and ability of the 3.

Except the current form argument works even less in Pospisil's favour. Pospisil hasn't won two matches in a row this season and before today had actually lost two straight first round qualifier matches against players ranked far worse than him. He's actually in the worst form of the three at the moment (and lost to Dancevic just last month). If you want the player in the best current form to be the #2, that would be Levine as he's clearly played the best of the 3 in 2013.

Again, I ask, if he hasn't reached the heights of either Dancevic or Levine on tour and he's not playing anywhere near as well as them right now, what exactly makes him the "best" player?
