Re: Davis Cup

Pospisil faced plenty of pressure against the Israeli dubs team who are top doubles players as well as all of his singles wins in Davis Cup last year. Just because he lost against Tsonga yesterday does not mean he doesn't handle pressure well.

The shoulder problem is really unfortunate. Vasek shouldn't have played yesterday anyway so he would be fresher for the more important Saturday and Sunday matches.

Now, Raonic pretty much has to win today and tomorrow.
And at the same time not to get too tired right before his title defense in San Jose.

Overall, I'm not exactly ecstatic about this.

Re: Davis Cup

What is the possibility of Milos defeating Tsonga and Pospisil defeating whoever tomorrow?

Re: Davis Cup

To me, our chances went with the doubles so I kinda want to see Raonic get subbed tomorrow. I just don't think whoever plays second tomorrow has a good enough chance to beat Monfils (who has probably recovered/fresh enough to play).

He has a ton of points to defend the next two weeks.

Re: Davis Cup

Unless of course his match tomorrow is a quick win which would be the best case scenario Unlikely against Tsonga though

Way more important for him to get experience against the best of the world in a pressure situation than to defend points at a 250 ATP event. He's got higher aspirations.

Re: Davis Cup

and how exactly did a doubles match help him on that matter?

I would be totally fine with him playing against Tsonga had he not played Doubles yesterday.

He's in the top 30, he has plenty of chances to face top level competition in high pressure situations. And defending a 250 title followed by defending a final in a 500 event is a pretty high pressure situation in itself

I believe the idea behind it was to help Canada win the tie (which he wanted to do). Same reason for playing him today.

It doesn't compare to playing a 5-set match against the best of the world with high stakes in his home country. Not at all. He'll play plenty of largely meaningless 250 events throughout his career.

Re: Davis Cup

he's 21, he'll get plenty of chances to play best of 5 matches at home for Davis Cup. And the team is World Group caliber so he'll definitely play top players in those ties.

Not to mention the Rogers Cup at home each year where he will be playing top players if he plays well.

And saying that 250's are meaningless is absurd. Just because it isn't at home and they aren't best of 5 doesn't make them meaningless.

Re: Davis Cup

To be clear, the only point I'm trying to make here is that this match against Tsonga isn't as important as people are making it seem to be.

Re: Davis Cup

I do not support our coach, everyone here knows that, but how the fuck can he play Milos in doubles and then Dancevic in singles today. How does he have a job. He has to go or we will never have any success in Davis Cup. This is not an insult to Frank, he just isn't our best singles player. This makes me so angry.

Re: Davis Cup

Snowwy, Milos is not playing because of his knee. That's not Laurendeau's fault.

Re: Davis Cup

He has a knee problem?

the doubles decision is becoming more and more of a joke ..

I hope he'll still be close to 100% for San Jose/Memphis
