Re: Davis Cup

I agree about Monfils, that Stockholm semi was really close! I'm definitely curious to know who will be named to the French team, more so than the Canadian one.
Anyone have any idea how ticket sales have been so far? I really hope it sells out!

this article says Dancevic will be on the team, so Pete is probably the odd man out

Re: Davis Cup

According to Myles:

Captain Martin Laurendeau already has a five-man squad, plus Milan Pokrojac as a lefty to prepare for some of the French doubles possibilities (i.e. The Magnificent Michaël Llodra)... But soon, Laurendeau said, Peliwo would be part of things.

Re: Davis Cup

Exciting for Pokrajac to be out of tennis last year and part of the Davis Cup team this year.

Re: Davis Cup

They just better not play Milan over someone like Vasek in doubles just because he's a lefty. That would be beyond idiotic, and potentially cost Canada a victory.

Re: Davis Cup

I don't think his purpose is to actually play against the French. It's probably to simulate playing against a lefty in doubles practice since Llodra himself is a lefty

Re: Davis Cup

Does anyone know if this will be televised? I know Sportsnet had a feed of the Israel matchup last year. But checking the sportsnet site, I can't find anything about whether or not they'll be showing it. And I will be very unhappy if we can't watch it here.

yes they will according to this link
http://www.sportsnet.ca/tvschedule/t...tennis-ONTARIO

it gives you everything in Eastern Standard Time; not sure where you are but you can figure out the broadcast times I'm sure.

They will also show some of USA vs Switzerland

That's excellent! Glad that we'll be able to watch it. I'm in Ottawa. And one of the reasons that I'm so happy about Raonic's rise is that it should help to improve the tennis coverage here.

Re: Davis Cup

Does anyone else think it odd that Milos (and Monfils) would agree to play an exo in San José on Monday 13 February?

I guess they are pretty confident that the Davis Cup rubber will be wrapped up early enough, and unexhaustingly enough, for them to want an extra match (even for fun) the day after.

Re: Davis Cup

Maybe it's because they didn't get to play their SF match last year due to Monfils withdrawing?

doesn't make much sense to me either

Re: Davis Cup

He's the defending champ and he's an SAP Ambassador, he probably thinks its rude to refuse

It's a shame that he has to do 2 exhibitions though. Isn't he also doing a doubles exho with JMac? And Monfils is in that one too

That's the same one I am talking about.

Presumably it is not too taxing given it is only dubs, but still it is an extra thing to do in addition to flying to San José and getting ready to defend his title, after a potentially draining Davis Cup weekend.
