Bester deserves the WC. screw Hewitt, if anything he would knock out a Canadian player if he received a WC.

Re: Davis Cup

Once Nestor retires,
For singles, Raonic is a lock. Polansky and Dancevic should stay away from the team unless they magically change their mental toughness on court.
So..Raonic = lock for singles
Pospisil/Bester = 2nd singles player
Adil/either Raonic or Pospisil = our doubles team once Nestor retired

Re: Davis Cup

So we have drawn Israel, away.

Certainly one of the more do-able teams, but a pity it has to be away. At least they are not very likely to choose clay, as their guys don't like it any more than ours do.

Re: Davis Cup

it's 50/50

if milos is ready he could win both singles but i really dont see anyone else we have beating dudi sela if he's playing well

it would come down to doubles and they have a pretty good doubles pairing

But wouldn't our number two play their number two once? And Dudi isn't a guarentee these days except on grass, which is great for Frank against their number two. I like this matchup for us.

Peter Polansky
Nestor - Chvojka - Pospisil - Raonic - Peliwo

Re: Davis Cup

Congratulations for the great come back against Ecuador

Israel away won't be easy, they usually were Dudi Sela + great doubles, but now they have Amir Weintraub (211) who is not a bad "second guitar". If Milos is able to play I think it could be a very tied series (I imagine Milos winning his 2 singles, Dudi Sela defeating Pospisil, and Erlich/Ram winning the doubles), if not it would be difficult for Canada but not impossible, Sela is not in a good moment now and wouldn't be crazy if he loses against Vasek.

Re: Davis Cup

First of all totally missed the epic comeback this weekend. Major props to Phil and Vasek Deserved wildcards to Montreal are sure to follow.

The health of Milos will be a critical factor in this tie, but we really couldn't have asked for a better draw. Sela is tough but certainly not unbeatable, and if our guys play to their level Weintraub should be beatable. Of course its DC so anything can happen, but at least we're not traveling to Australia or a clay court tie in South America.

As misty says though, the one match that concerns me is doubles. Normally I just automatically assume Canada will take that point, but Erlich and Ram are solid doubles players and playing at home have to be considered the favorites for that point.

It will come down to either a healthy Milos taking both singles matches or else us beating Weintraub twice and hoping we get one of the other singles matches.

The opportunity is there though - we have to take it this year. I may need to plan a trip to Tel Aviv

Re: Davis Cup

One of the better draws we could have gotten, if Milos is healthy, I think we've got a great shot at the tie. We should be able to take both singles from Weintraub, and even with the doubles point not its usual guarantee, Milos will be favoured against Dudi. Without Milos, it's still doable, but that doubles point will become even more key, we'll need Dan/Vasek to beat Erlich/Ram, not an easy thing.

Of course, it would have been a lot nicer to have this tie in Canada, home advantage might be a big boost to Israel.

Re: Davis Cup

Congrats on your Davis Cup victory! Wow.. Canadian tennis is better now than.. ever. You manage to win even without Milos! That says a lot about the state of Canadian tennis right now. Simply amazing! I wish I was Canadian

Re: Davis Cup

Eventually, its just gonna be Adil and Vasek doing doubles all the time once Nestor retires. Actually, I'd like to see Adil play Davis Cup doubles for us. I think he should be on the team. He's by far the best doubles player in Canada excluding Nestor.

I would also like to see Adil have the chance to play Davis Cup, but I don't think it is going to be such an easy thing to find a regular space for him on the team. Ideally you want 4 guys who can all play singles as well as make up a viable doubles team, in order to have maximum flexibility. It is worth sacrificing one spot for a doubles specialist when you have someone with the skill and depth of experience of Nestor. But otherwise it is not so obvious, particularly when several of our singles players have good doubles skills.

Re: Davis Cup

I hope the Canadians get into the WG. I think it's all going to come down to where Milos is at, and I think Milos has to win both his matches. I think whoever wins between Sela and Raonic will eventually win the tie.

Shamasdin, if he ever would get selected into a tie, Israel would be the one since Israel themselves carries a pure doubles pair. But the reality is, Frank is unreliable and Milos may or may not be 100%, so they can't really afford to not carry a third singles player. And that third player should be determined by who comes back healthy, and does best during the N.A. HC season.

I don't know if Raonic can beat Sela, but I do think the Canadians can beat the Erlich/Ram. Nestor is better than both of them. Nestor/Dancevic, for example, would be a good pair. Or Nestor/Pospisil. Canada has more options and better overall talent than Israel. Plus Israel's preferred surface is hard court, so that's another positive for the Canadian team.

I think Canada is the slight favorite. Hopefully I'm proven right in September. And also I want to say again that I admire how the Canadians on this forum really support their own

I don't wanna sound silly but I always wanted us to take on the Americans and crush them on their soil. That be so sweet! Btw, when's the last time we took on the Americans?
