Re: Davis Cup

so now that Bester won the decisive 5th rubber does that mean he's pretty much guarenteed a Rogers Cup WC like Agostinelli got in 09 when he won a 5th rubber for us in DC?

what happens in Hewitt wants one?

According to Tennis Canada twitter, draw will be done on Wednesday, so we won't have to wait long.

Hard to analyze much without knowing Milos' status, but I'd say Romania at home wouldn't be bad. Chile at home would be doable. India at home would be fine, but tough if we had to make that trip. Figure anyone we play at would pick clay except for India, so hard to see us putting up any fight on the road.

I figure we'll probably lose in September, especially if Milos isn't fit for it, but it's nice to be back at this level, if nothing else. And who knows, if Frank and Milos are back and fit, we could get ourselves a win.
does it work like that? on the sportsnet chat someone said top 8 seeds face other 8 teams. based on the current rankings the 8 seeds would be everyone there except replace Belgium with israel. Or is it teams that lose face teams from group 1?

I think they would, considering they picked clay for Karlovic and Cilic against the US a couple of years ago.

Re: Davis Cup

I say we take on India at home at the Corral Centre in Calgary where we've had our most success.

Re: Davis Cup

Considering the fact we didn't have any of our DC "veterans" Milos, Frank, and Peter playing this tie, I'd say it's a really good win for Canada. Vasek and Phil are both relatively new in DC experience so it's pretty understandable what happened on the first day but good on them to pull it out today. Nestor obviously played a big part in this tie as well. I don't even care who we get drawn against in the next tie. I'm just glad we FINALLY made it out of the Americas group. It's been forever!

I'm really looking forward to the North American hard court swing coming up and especially the number of tournaments in Canada. Great opportunity for our guys so hopefully we see some nice results

Re: Davis Cup

Looks like I was again wrong; they apparently base the seedings on the newest rankings they put out, so Romania is out and Switzerland is in

Switzerland would be another draw for hosting.

how many can they give out again 5 right? so there's room for both to get one

even though i personally dont think this one win proves that he deserves one, i think you should look at the whole davis cup performance..he had that bad loss to campozano too

yeah I understand but in 09 they gave one to a virtually unranked Agostinelli after he won the 5th rubber in a tie against Peru to keep us in Americas group 1, so i was just thinking along with that. I think Frank, vasek and Peter and probably locks, I don't see Hewitt taking one of their WC's so it would be interesting to see if they give him Bester's WC with that in mind
