I hope he can do well this year. I've liked him for a while now and..as some may remember thought he'd have made a move to be higher in the rankings by now
Apparently he's not - name not listed on the tourney acceptance list. I'd like to see him not push it, just back playing after an injury layoff. The 27 ranking points for winning will put him in the 480s for a ranking.
Second the sentiment. Mahut's level on a hard court than on grass is a notch if not two lower but still a great win. Watched the last set and he was cranking the winners. Winnable match next, against Ben Mitchell.
Can someone explain his injury situation, I know he barely played last year cause of either knee or back surgery, can't remember which exactly, came back and did play a bit though, has barely played this year too, played a tiny bit in March, hasn't played since until now, is it still the same injury he had surgery for that's bothering him is the reason for this, or has he been training, or something else?
Yah I am curious too what specifically was the problems and if he is fully fit now ... As I wrote in another thread, we would still be toiling in America's zone play without Bester gutting out that win
Does anyone here think Phillip Bester can eventually crack top 200 at some point in his career? I always cuz of his constant injuries we never really get to see Bester's true peak form. I think he has potential to crack top 200.
Impressive result today judging from scoreline, beating Di Feo one and love. If Bester reaches the final his ranking will climb to just outside the top 400 and if he wins he'll be in the 370s. I think if he can play without more injury setbacks he'll knock on the door of the top 200.
According to Tennis Canada, Bester will be having hip surgery and out at least 4 months.
