Re: Vasek Pospisil

Good to see its not a serious injury although I don't really understand the retirement right now.

Re: Vasek Pospisil

apparently it was cramping

Re: Vasek Pospisil

According to the drawsheet, it was fatigue. Really?! I am not sure I understand that. How are you struck down so severely with fatigue in the middle of a service game that you have to retire?

Re: Vasek Pospisil

Mystery solved!
Retirements/W.
POSPISIL, V. (fatigue)
I was surprise when I read he was going to play this week. Maybe that match wasn't a marathon, but last week in overall was. It's not like he's used to playing a whole week.

Re: Vasek Pospisil

but he did have time to recover. Its not like he won the challenger and next day he was playing again. He has had a busy schedule recently but he hasn't necessarily been playing a lot of tennis

Re: Vasek Pospisil

From Stephanie Myles tweets:

For those asking about Pospisil's retirement in Guadeloupe: tells Open Court he was cramping badly during the singles, no time to adjust to heat/humidity on quick turnaround from Rimouski to Guadeloupe. Was ill after the singles; doctor said shouldn't play dubs but he didn't want to let Duclos (partner) down. Was cramping during the dubs as well.

Re: Vasek Pospisil

Now that cleared up what happened. Nothing unusual to me. He's going to play next three weeks again. Fitness management will be critical and I believe they're working on it. Anyway glad to know he's fine.

Re: Vasek Pospisil

Vasek is in Tallahassee this week, playing Ball in R1. He's ranked #99 in the new rankings so it's a career-high for him and the first time he's officially in the top 100! He also will make his first ever direct-entry into a slam at the French. It's been a bit of an up and down season but he's taken advantage of the fact he didn't have a lot to defend the beginning of the year. Now it's time for him to take the next step in a big challenger/ATP event and really make his mark. Let's see if this week is the beginning of that progression.

Finally make it to top 100 after a somewhat disappointing season start
Hopefully he will get his revenge against Ball whom he lost to in AO qualies

Re: Vasek Pospisil

3-6, 6-3, 3-6 Only 4pts on return in the 3rd. :/ It's a pity that he couldn't get the momentum going. Ball is a tough opponent to meet in an opening match though.

Keep trying.

Re: Vasek Pospisil

Vasek's struggles on serve are more alarming than his struggles on return, since he's supposedly a guy whose serve is a weapon and one of the main tenants of his game. Something he's definitely going to have to improve.

Re: Vasek Pospisil

not rally surprising. He didnt really play anyone threatening to win the challenger he did and even still he wasnt convincing in any of the victories he had. He won that challenger but the weak entry list disguised his poor form

Re: Vasek Pospisil

I was worried about this as soon as I saw it was Ball again. Good news is that he's actually managed to take a set off of lefties lately, although his returning in the 3rd set is worrying.
