The vast majority of people who visit the US Open want to watch big names or guys they have seen before, not the most interesting matches. Look at last night's horrible schedule. Unlike the French Open, the majority of US Open visitors are not terribly knowledgeable about tennis. Lopez is well known enough - and the girls like watching him play enough - that he should have been on a TV court. He was for his first round. With all due respect to Florian Mayer, outside tennis addicts like MTF no one has a clue who the guy is.

But no Lopez [25] vs Vasek?

At the end of the day, it's not about rankings or players but up to TV broadcasters though.
This wasn't a choice of the TV broadcasters. By the time Mayer takes the court it will be the night session and there is no way TV broadcasters are leaving Ashe stadium for Florian Mayer with McHale and then Sock/Roddick playing. Then again the same would have been true for Lopez.

Re: Vasek Pospisil

While we wait for Vasek to begin, we can celebrate the fact that Françoise Abanda (aged 14) just won her place in the final of the G1 in Repentigny (beating earlier this week the world #3 and Wimbledon champion Ashleigh Barty). She is going to be ranked somewhere around #25.

She has really come along spectacularly the last couple of months. The North African tournaments were pretty weak, but this one has many of the top players, so she is showing she can hold her own with the best.

# Thursday in the park with Vasek (photos)

Ahead of his big match against Fetchin’ Feliciano Lopez on Friday, Canadian Vasek Pospisil went out to practice court P11 – just outside the East Gate at the National Tennis Center – and found a few friends.

# Meet Fric and Frac (video)

After Vasek Pospisil and coach Fred Niemeyer finished a practice Thursday, preparing for Friday’s big U.S. Open second-round match against Feliciano Lopez, they sat down with Open Court to talk about potential, hard work paying off, life on the road, and what’s next.

Here we go!

Re: Vasek Pospisil

Was worried if he got shaken by the break exchange. Nice hold from 0-30. It's a shame that he couldn't consolidate the break though. Two love games on return after that.

Excellent!

Just remember, Vashy, that you need to keep it up.

2nd set to Lopez 6-4. Feli saves 3 break points in his last 2 service games.
