Re: Canadian Players 2

Steven won his first round match in a squeaker so don't know if he is still feeling the effects of whatever pain or injury he had in Brazil last week. Interesting to see that Kelsey Stevenson is still trying to get that first point, he was a junior near the top 100 a few years ago and always seems to play these futures in places that seem to have really weak fields. This week he is playing in China F5 and is playing an unranked foe, so let's see if he can get that first point.

Re: Canadian Players 2

Just going to give you guys an overview of the points up to date for our Canadian Players (As of May 9 2011). Last year in parantheses:

Milos Raonic: 1093 Points. (68 Points).
Frank Dancevic: 141 Points. (0 Points).
Vasek Pospisil: 97 Points + 18 from Busan so far. (37 Points).
Philip Bester: 63 Points. (12 Points).
Erik Chvojka: 56 Points. (32 Points).
Steven Diez: 31 Points. (+1 from Spain F15). (27 Points).
Peter Polansky: 29 Points. (33 Points).
Pierre-Ludovic Duclos: 28 Points. (48 Points).

No one else has gotten points of significance expect Ahmed El Tabakh and Daniel Chu who got a point each.

Looking at where some of our players are compared to last year at this same point, I would say that the only player going down in the rankings is Duclos. Despite Peter and Steven struggling, they are at about the same amount of points as last year. Philip and Vasek have marked improvement. Frank doesn't have any points to defend for a while so he can only go up. And Milos is pretty self-explanatory.

If you look at where Milos was last year (68 points) and where Vasek is now (115 points)...

Re: Canadian Players 2

If anyone is interested, predictions for 2011 started on Page 342 of Canadian Players. Looks like most of us got Peter and Frank right, but the rest is still to see.

Re: Canadian Players 2

Steven lost in the second round like 6-2,6-0 (ugh).
Pavel got a LL in USA F12 but couldn't do anything with it.
Vasek is still going strong in Busan.
Kelsey was unable to get that first point but still seems to be trying on a limited schedule.
Mo Niaki lost in the second round of USA F12 Qualies and Edward lost in Q3 of the same tournament.
Don't know if anyone has noticed but a young junior from Canada (Antoine Richard) has been trying to qualify for a futures event in Europe pretty much all year long but has yet to make it. He constantly makes it far in Qualies though (I think he is born in 94).
That is pretty much it for this week I guess

Go Vasek, take the title!!!

Re: Canadian Players 2

I just noticed there were 2 new futures (both 15K)in Canada this summer. One is in Mississauga and the other one in Saskatoon.

does anyone know if these are simply new or if it's the ontario futures (in september) being relocated?

Sept. 3-11
F5 ITF $15,000 Donalda Men's Futures: Donalda Club, Toronto, ON

Sept. 10-18
F6 ITF $15,000 Tevlin Men's Futures: Rexall Centre, Toronto, ON

Sept. 17-25

those Sep. Futures are still scheduled, so it's not a relocation

Re: Canadian Players 2

Good to see that there are more futures starting to pop up in Canada, went from three to seven in a few years.

Dubois is, Aleks said she was going to, and I believe El Tabakh got in last I saw. Fichman was still in the ALT's then, not sure if she got in or not, I doubt it
