Re: Canadian Players 2

The kids (girls and boys) have started well in the qualifying for the junior Davis Cup etc. Only hiccup was Di Feo losing his match. They were playing Mexico, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Cuba, so are expected to do well - the challenge comes against the US.

For U16 it is Di Feo, Schnur and Schulman.

For U14 it is Tabilo, Volfson and Harrison Scott.

Françoise Abanda is playing up an age group in the U16.

Wonder why they didn't take Obucina or Beran in the U16.

I think it's because of the results at the National Championships.

They seem to have stuck pretty much to the rankings:

Diez won the final in Brazil Aracaju Futures 61 62. He will probably move to a new career high on Monday along with Raonic, Bester, Pospisil.

Re: Canadian Players 2

Excellent sign for Diez... hopefully seeing what Milos and Vasek (and Frank this week) are accomplishing gives some extra motivation to the other Canucks

Diez won a tournament last year at about this same time after he had done nothing all year. Let's hope this is a stepping stone for him.

Re: Canadian Players 2

Interesting success in Junior Davis Cup - to my surprise the U16 boys have beaten the US! Schnur lost his singles, Di Feo won his and they combined to win the dubs in 3 sets.

Assuming they can get past the Bahamas (who have lost all their matches so far), they should be through to the finals for a second year in a row, which is quite an achievement as it requires beating the US (at least it has in recent years - not sure whether Mexico is still hosting it and therefore still guaranteed one of the N. Am spots).

The U14 boys dispatched Mexico for the loss of only 7 games.

Re: Canadian Players 2

Junior tennis is looking really good at the moment. Don't know too much about Shulman and Scott as they are from the West, but the four that are playing for Canada right now defenitely have a shot at going pro or at least having decent NCAA careers. I hope at least a few go pro though, and we only have to look at what Milos has done in the last year for motivation.

Re: Canadian Players 2

Rankings for May 2, for Canadians in top 500 - 3 have career highs (congrats to Milos, Philip and Vasek):

25 Raonic, Milos CH
180 Dancevic, Frank (CH 65)
208 Polansky, Peter (CH 164)
238 Bester, Philip CH
257 Pospisil, Vasek CH
383 Chvojka, Erik (CH 343)
440 Duclos, Pierre-Ludovic (CH 259)
451 Diez, Steven (CH 428)

Steve will benefit next week from his Brazilian success but he has points to defend the week after from a Futures win, so they will cancel each other out.

Also in doubles, Shamasdin is at a CH of 67.

It's great to see Philip is finally almost catching up on Peter! But kind of sad too as Peter could be ranked higher than that, had he steadily kept improving!

Re: Canadian Players 2

it amazes me, with how horribly peter is doing right now that he's still where he is..and then i remember he doesnt have alot to defend..he could rise fast to if only he could get his act together again

Re: Canadian Players 2

I'm new to the boards but am glad that I am coming in at the what seems to be a rise in Canadian Tennis.

Great to see some strong results at starting this year with 3 players getting there CH in ranking this week.

Hope to have some great discussions about Canadian Tennis!
