Re: Canadian Players 2

I think only Chvojka will qualify, which would put maybe 8 Canadians in the main draw: Chvojka, Peliwo, Bester, Pokrajac, Krainek, Di Feo, Shunur, Polansky/Monette?

Peter Polansky
Nestor - Chvojka - Pospisil - Raonic - Peliwo

Re: Canadian Players 2

Beran upset seeded player to qualify - good for him. (Anderson came close, like I though he would likely.) Monette is a standby, case Polansky didn't accept WC?

Re: Canadian Players 2

Canadians played well today in Canada F2. Schnur earned his first ever ranking point, beating World No. 329 Wolmarans in straight sets. Peliwo won his match 6-2, 6-2. Chvojka beat D Garza 3 and love. Polansky took out a tough El-Mildawy in straights and Jecminek took second seed J Baker to a third set tie break.

Di Feo, Krainik, Pokrajac, Ochotta and Bester in singles action tomorrow.

Re: Canadian Players 2

The case of Kelsey Stevenson is a little interesting - he seems to be based in South East Asia - I don't know if it's as a tennis player or if he does something else (studies, work - maybe he teaches ESL) too. Anyway, he must be kicking himself for missing out on a freebee ATP ranking point. He was the highest ranked qualifying round loser, apparently didn't sign up for lucky loser, and the guy who got it won easily over a local WC entrant. Next round too is against a guy ranked lower than him (Stevenson).

Re: Canadian Players 2

I don't know if you guys have seen this, but we have a Junior who is only 13, but appears to be the real deal. Denis Shapovalov was runner up at U18 provincials, and this week made it to the QF's of singles and doubles at the G5 Junior Tournament. This will make him the 3rd highest ranked player born in 1999 in the world. I know it's too young to start judging, but I definitely feel like he's someone to keep an eye on. He's a lefty with a one-handed backhand, who's coached by his mother.

I saw him play a couple of weeks ago at the U16 nationals, where he finished 5th. Definetly has potential, and hits a nice and clean ball. I didn't know he was 13 though, that looks promising.

He's still U14 in OTA, he had a big breakthrough in February when he won a big U16 event, and then he just kept going up from there. There's maybe 4 kids in Ontario that can beat him regularly. Martin Beran, who he plays in the QF's is one of them.

Thanks for the heads up. I've been following Dancevic since he was 16. It's certainly been a wild ride, but I don't regret it.

Re: Canadian Players 2

Sam Monette is playing at Indiana this year as a freshman and he is ranked 102 right now in college tennis. He is playing #1 there over Isade Juneau (Canadian) and Josh MacTaggert. Monette and Juneau are ranked 21st in the doubles rankings.
