Re: Canadian Players 2

A bit late in the week but I thought I would give the ranking update (top 500) for July 18:

28 Raonic, Milos (CH 25)
161 Dancevic, Frank (CH 65)
183 Pospisil, Vasek (CH!)
235 Bester, Philip (CH 229)
277 Polansky, Peter (CH 164)
337 Chvojka, Erik (CH!)
357 Duclos, Pierre-Ludovic (CH 259)
454 Diez, Steven (CH 407)

Congrats to Vashy and Erik for career highs. Also a special mention for Peliwo who enters the rankings at 1,074 thanks to his 5 Granby points. Shamasdin reaches another CH in doubles at 60.

It is good that there are a few things to celebrate, since on the injury front it looks pretty grim. Speaking of which, here is an Injury Roster:

Milos – hip – retired 22 June Wimbledon
Frank – back – last played 21 June Wimbledon
Vasek – ankle – retired 15 July Granby
Philip - ??? – withdrew Lexington (maybe not injured, just not playing out of solidarity)
Peter – groin – last played 13 June Wimbledon qualies

Wow, what a win by Ahmed, that really came out of nowhere. Kelsey is about to break into the top 1000 with his win today.

Looks like Peliwo won in 3 tough sets today - anyone see the match?

Re: Canadian Players 2

Very good win for Filip. Very unexpected. He has a shot at a SF here. I thought Verryth was going to make the final from that half of the draw.

Peter Polansky
Nestor - Chvojka - Pospisil - Raonic - Peliwo

Diez won today in F3, but other than Peliwo the others lost.

Re: Canadian Players 2

Who really thought here that Milos would one day be in the top 30? When I first started following Canadian Tennis in 2008, Milos was ranked just inside the top 900 as a 17 year old. Now Filip as a 17 year old has got 8 points and should get himself into the 950 after this result is in. Their Junior ranking is about the same but I believe Milos reached his max at the end of his Junior Career.

I am not saying that Filip will make the top 30 in 3 years but he could definitely be a decent player.

Re: Canadian Players 2

Why the hell is Di Feo playing a G5 in Canada? I really don't get why he is there. I understand that he has those 30 points to defend. but I would rather see him playing the Canada F3 and get pro Experience. I assume that he is going to play Canada F4 and maybe get a wildcard since if he wins the G5 the final is on Saturday and Qualies also start on Saturday.

Re: Canadian Players 2

Nice surprise to see Peliwo win here. I can't help wondering how much of it was a matter of who dealt with the extreme heat better. Though it would be funny if the Canadian beat the Australian on heat preparation.

I don't see how we can tell how he is going to do in the long run. It seems pretty mysterious. Often it seems like the guys who do really well very young fade out and get overtaken by others.

Rogers Cup wildcards should go to Chovka, Duclos without a doubt

Why? Because they never support Tennis Canada and say no when asked to play DC? (Duclos). Or because they can occasionally pull off upsets in the first and second round in challengers when they are underdogs against the likes of Wolmarans and Monroe?

Peter Polansky
Nestor - Chvojka - Pospisil - Raonic - Peliwo

Cuz the other Canucks are injured, you gotta have some Canadian content in our Masters series event.

Re: Canadian Players 2

yes, so lets give wild cards to guys who have no chance at all to win a match in the main draw

would you enjoy watching them get hammered in the main draw?
