Re: Frank Dancevic

I find it rather sad that we haven't heard anything about Frank's situation and prospects for return. It seems like there have been lots of articles about Canadian tennis players recently and Frank gets hardly a mention. I feel he deserves a bit more respect, as our long-time #1 player.

Of course, it is possible that he is declining requests for an update from journalists. I can't help wondering whether he is asking himself how long he wants to continue playing if he is constantly struggling with his back.

Re: Frank Dancevic

Funny you should mention that, Open Court just posted this update on Dancevic, looks like he WILL be playing qualies for Rogers Cup http://blogs.montrealgazette.com/201...ic-to-qualies/

Re: Frank Dancevic

it is weird..i wonder if he asked for qualies though..just because he hasnt played really since wimbledon and so he could get back into the rythym of things

i mean, unless he requested to play qualies himself he's one of the guys you'd think that, like peter regardless of form going in would get a main draw wild card

Re: Frank Dancevic

I think it's a good decision to play qualies. At least he may have more than one match practise. In his condition, he will exit in first round in MD.

He will probably exit first round of qualies as well.

I doubt it, the 8k they get from wc is huge for them, there not exactly overflowing with money.
I almost fell off my chair when i heard he didnt get a wc into main draw

Re: Frank Dancevic

Very strange, it would be a huge snub to Frank if he was rejected for a MD WC, gotta imagine that he asked for it for whatever reason.

Re: Frank Dancevic

It is really weird. Apart from anything else, if he wanted to play qualies, why didn't he sign up for it - he probably would have made it in on his ranking (though to be honest, it wouldn't be the first time he neglected things in the matter of signing up).

I wonder if he has had a falling out with Tennis Canada. It is probably reading too much into it, but I was surprised that Tebbutt kept saying that Dancevic "chose not to play Davis Cup", when it was known he had a problem with his back and it would have been easy enough just to say he was injured, even if he had earlier said he didn't want to play DC.

hes not with laurendeau anymore, if he was laurendeau would of never let that happen. The only explanation i have is maybe they wanted to give a wc to a local quebec player. Its kind of weird cause erik has never really received any support or any significant wild cards from tennis canada

Re: Frank Dancevic

from Open Court Twitter, sounds like Frank is just as surprised as we are about not getting a MD WC.

Well we do know that ML is no longer Frank's coach and ML seems to run Tennis Canada..

Re: Frank Dancevic

What's also strange is that if Dancevic would have signed up for qualies in the first place he would have made it to Qualies on his own rankings. So technically because he didnt bother to sign up for Q, he is taking a WC from another Canadian.

That doesn't make a whole lot of sense - if that was the issue it would make more sense to bump Bester. And if they didn't want to bump Bester on account of his DC performance, they could have bumped Tomic.
