Re: Frank Dancevic

So the live score said that Fish choked the first set away? Other players never step up? How is a break in the first set different at 3-4 than 5-3?

Peter Polansky
Nestor - Chvojka - Pospisil - Raonic - Peliwo

Re: Frank Dancevic

look, yes people can fight back but

in the first set he was up 5-2 and lost 6-7

in the 2nd set he was up 5-3 and double faulted to start when he was trying to serve out the set and fell into an 0-30 hole before he recovered.

so yes i'd say he choked that first set away and he nearly choked away the 2nd set.

Re: Frank Dancevic

I watched parts of the match on a livestream at http://www.fromsport.com/ - for future reference the site often has the relevant links, at least in the bigger tournies. My impression of the first set was that both were serving rather poorly for the most of the time, and Frank starting out with a rather lackadaisical style and spraying shots widely. I was wondering what his strategy was for actually winning points, but then things suddenly starting to go in, and he was running around energetically and using his backhand not only esthetically but also actually effectively. It wasn't clear to me that Fish was wholly responsible for the set getting away from him.

Fish started serving much, much better in the second set, whereas Frank showed he can be relied upon to have at least one really poor service game per set. He was lucky to get away with a respectable final scoreline, as it was looking bad in the last set when he was down 2 breaks and couldn't find a 1st serve.

Anyway, a great tournament for Frank and hopefully it will inspire him to great things in the coming weeks.

Re: Frank Dancevic

I watched the match and in the first set Frank played an extremely loose game to lose serve but after that I was impressed by how well he was playing. He frustrated Fish by making 2 or 3 diving volleys and they got into it a little at one of the changeovers. After the first set it seemed his first serve went away and he was no longer getting any free points so it is nearly impossible for Frank to beat Fish without getting free points. In the final set he was tired but he actually put in a little fight at the end to make Fish serve for it twice. I think he will take positives out of this match and hopefully will lead to a good summer.

Re: Frank Dancevic

Tough for Frank, but at least he managed a couple of wins, I was afraid the week could have been another complete write-off. I expect we'll see him in qualies for Atlanta, LA, etc., over the next few weeks, hopefully he can take some confidence from here

Re: Frank Dancevic

Frank has a pretty good draw in the Atlanta qualifying. 1st round Verryth, a young Australian. No one in his section that should be too much of a threat, if he is playing well.

Re: Frank Dancevic

Frank lost a tight first set 76 to Lindahl but he's up a break in the second set 3-1...

Its raining though - just as Frank was seeming to get some momentum
