Re: Frank Dancevic

At least he avoided getting bageled, but still a really terrible performance to lose 1-6

I assume that the hip injury we heard about played some role in this, his serve just seemed to disappear from 4*-5 in the second on.

Re: Frank Dancevic

Wowza. Well if we're following the pattern, Frank had a couple great results this summer which means we should expect about 6 months of abysmal losses now.

I'm a bit confused, he won 11 points in the third set - was he hurt? I was following the livescores and there were no long pauses in the final set, which leads me to believe there were no medical timeouts... if he is hurt I hope it's not serious. This is very depressing!

Re: Frank Dancevic

There was a long pause towards the end of the 2nd set - I was presuming a medical timeout. Dancevic then held serve but went on to lose the next 6 or 7 games. I was assuming he must have been injured. But who knows?

At this point in his career I think we can't keep looking at injuries as an excuse. I think a lot has to be in Frank's head, whether motivation or some factor mental block. He's had several opportunities to breakthrough and become a top 50 to 75 player in the world, but he follows every solid result up with terrible play for 6 months. This happens every year. Consistency is simply not Frank's strong point.

In my opinion he'll be playing qualifiers for the slams the rest of his career. Will be interesting to see how long it takes Polansky to overtake him as top Canadian player. Its too bad, because Frank has the talent to be a top 50 player.

My thinking is that it might help Frank's problems on the mental side to have Polansky (or any other player) threatening to overtake him as #1 Canadian singles ATP player. Might help focus the mind.

Hello there all Dancevic fans!

I was wondering if anyone knows how I could possibly contact Frank?

Thanks!

Re: Frank Dancevic

Uh oh. Seems Frank's injury is a serious one. He has a herniated disc in his back. Diagnosed a couple weeks ago in Montreal and it went out on him halfway through the Meffert match. It'll be at least a month before he takes the court again. Seems pretty doubtful he will be playing any more ATP tournaments this year. I would imagine that, even if he could get treated and rehab quickly, he would probably just stay in NA to play Challengers - going to Asia to play qualifying rounds with an iffy back doesn't sound smart to me.

Very very sad news. Get well soon Frank.

Re: Frank Dancevic

That really sucks, though I'm not too surprised given the way his serve fell apart in that match.

Hopefully it's not too serious and he can get healthy soon

Polansky has played in 3 of the 4 grand slams this year, so in my opinion, he is the better player this yearm but Frank still has the talent to go out there any week and beat anyone.

Peter Polansky
Nestor - Chvojka - Pospisil - Raonic - Peliwo

That is really kind of an absurd thing to say. Yeah he's played in one more slam than Frank, but he's won 2 matches all year long. Two. And one of those wins has a huge asterisk beside it because it was against Agostinell who is outside the top 1000. So, really, one ATP match win in all of 2009 and that's good enough to be better than Frank?

Frank has a semis and a finals this season on two different surfaces and beat a handful of top 100 opponents to accomplish that. I don't really understand that statement.
