Re: Milos Raonic

If Milos had continued on his trajectory of improvement from earlier this year, this could very well be his big break draw .. and a first appearance in a GS Semi. Sure, he needed improvement on grass, but he was improving a lot of his weaknesses. This draw with Ferrer in R4 on grass, and Delpo in QF on grass (normally his weakest surface although maybe with olympic performance he's turned that around) and semis would have been not unattainable for Milos.

With his current form though, he could very well go out in first round ... even against Berlocq. I expect somewhere in middle .. probably making R3 or if he gets some of his form back R4.

Re: Milos Raonic

Probably the best draw a #17 seed could ask for.

Re: Milos Raonic

Saw this article in Globe & Mail about Ivan coaching Milos (hard copy ... I am one of a shrinking population of people who actually reads hard copy I think :-) ) ... interesting quote from Ivan:

"The two have practised together in Monte Carlo, but Ljubicic said he isn’t changing much now in Raonic’s game. There isn’t enough time for big adjustments at this point in the season, when players are coming off clay and making the transition to grass."

Good thing too ... Milos's recent drop in form has nothing to do with trying new mechanics too fast (which would be a mistake I think) .. it really is about confidence. I suspect the real work on taking that next step will happen between Wimby & Milos's next tournament in Washington (probably at least 4 weeks .. more if he can't even get out of first couple rounds on grass).

Good piece, puts things in perspective, looks like he won't have good results in the short term, but in the long run could, for me though I'm just not sure his game is big enough to be a big time player, we'll see how the next few years goes.

Re: Milos Raonic

An early round exit but once he fine tunes a few defects in his game, he'll be formidable. He isn't naturally blessed with the footwork of a mountain goat, but lets hope for the best.

Re: Milos Raonic

Sijsling loss wasn't totally unexpected, he's probably alot better on grass than Carlos, so he posed a formidable threat to Milos.

Re: Milos Raonic

Pretty quite on this page - almost as muted as Milos' results.

Someone one ESPN needs to run a story on Raonic and Verdasco - a tale of two players that are linked. The tennis equilibrium cannot have both players succeeding at the same time. After his first San Jose tournament victory, Roanic started the slide for Verdasco. About 18 months later, Verdasco started the Raonic's slide after he defeated Raonic.

Methinks Raonic is done. Opponents have figured out how to read his serve and his mediocre backhand and return of service are not enough to maintain a ranking in the top 30 in the world.

I'm cheering for Bouchard - she's paying Canadian taxes, no?

Are you serious, he's not done, they are good enough to maintain a ranking in the top 15, not 30, which is what he's doing right now.

Re: Milos Raonic

Even Ivo Karlovic, who's got big serve with not much else, got to 14th in the world, including a win over Federer.

Regardless, I prefer to cheer for Canadian residents that pay Canadian taxes.

Oh boy, didn't you know that quite a few tennis players have more than 1 residence, this is silly, he has a residence that's better for his training and tennis, don't you support that, he saves money for his tennis, don't you support that.
