Worst match I saw Milos played. He will not play worse than this in next round, right?

Re: Milos Raonic

There's been an unfortunate trend this year of him not dealing with expectations and pressure well. He's played his best tennis when he's been the underdog (like he was for much of last season), but struggled often when he's the favourite. That match was just another example of it. He played horrible! And in big games/points once again, he resorted to pushing.

Mentally, he's still not quite there yet. I'm hopeful that it will click for him sometime down the road and that he'll get used to being a top 10-15 level player, but I'm not sure it will be this tournament.

Re: Milos Raonic

I am pleasantly surprised to see he actually won as when I left the scoreboard he was down 2 sets and a break.

As MandM says, it seems like he is struggling with the pressure. He obviously believes it is important to focus on doing well in the majors - that may actually be counterproductive, as he doesn't seem to be able to cope with the need to perform at his best when he really wants it most.

Nevertheless, I think it is important that he pulled through. I didn't have much hope of him winning, because he seems to have trouble turning things around when things start going the wrong way.

If I am not mistaken, this is only the third match he has won this year where he lost the 2nd set.

Re: Milos Raonic

He is up 3rd on Court 17 (which I believe is not only televised, but has Hawkeye) tomorrow. Hopefully he plays better than on Tuesday, as I can't see him pulling out two straight wins playing that poorly.

Re: Milos Raonic

No way Milos can play any worse than on Tuesday.

And by the way - if you think MTF posters are critical and dismissive of Milos, you should have been at his match Tuesday - people couldn't stop telling their friends how much of a worthless mug Milos was. FormerRafaFan would have been the rational person there...

I'll be there again tomorrow

If their only experience with Milos was watching him play that match, then yeah, I can see why people might say that. It was brutal stuff from both players.

Re: Milos Raonic

Very nice response to his horrible last match, didn't see it all, but looked much better from what I saw, straight sets in about 2 hours.

Just came home in time to watch he won last two points. Better than his first match but still lots of room to improve (I watched his match till he broke PHM in second set.

This was much much better. But the serve really bailed him out today. Overall though solid when needed, backhand returns so much better than against Giraldo. Great Canadian contingent at match.

I'll post a few pics later

Re: Milos Raonic

In response to the following post The Serve-Bots of 2012, I posted this, and I quote:

"Actually, Milos, with 93 -16, is not in a too bad position, as a lot of the big names have a high percentage of game points won, and a rather low percentage of return game, carrer-wise.
Sampras: 89 - 24
Ivanisevic (won Wimbledon 2001): 86 - 19
Philippoussis (2 slam finals): 85 - 18
Even Federer with a career of 88 - 27, is worth mentioning.
With a higher percentage of game points won than any of those, Milos would need to raise his return games only by a couple of points to be a serious contender. That explains why even now, he's having so much success.
You can call Milos a serve-bot if you wish, but while you're at it why not add Sampras to the list of serve-bots?"

What do you guys think? Please discuss.

Federer, Raonic, Tsonga, Monfils, DelPo ...

Re: Milos Raonic

Disappointed that the third went to a breaker, definitely got sloppy once he was up the break in the third. Still, I think he can give Murray a close match, he just can't afford those kind of drops in level if he wants to get the upset.

Re: Milos Raonic

Milos plays his first night match on Ashe stadium tomorrow! Plays Andy after the Williams Sisters doubles match. He'll probably start against AndyMurray at 9pm NY Time

Another Game for Milos
