Re: Milos Raonic

He's not signed in Hertogenbosch or Eastbourne, so unless receives a WC it should be Halle and Wimbledon, then Davis Cup

Re: Milos Raonic

wel..he didnt play the week before the french and i dont think he played the week before the australian(although, admittedly i cant remember for sure) so i think he's decided to take the week before grand slams off, which i think is a smart idea

the only way he might play more than one event and ask for a wild card somewhere is if he loses early in Halle

Re: Milos Raonic

Sorry to be commenting so late on Milos at Roland Garros but I just got posting permission.
His loss to Berrer was the third in a row to a lefty. Verdasco in Rome & Lopez in Madrid.
This must be important because I thought I read somewhere that Nadal being a natural right handed guy started playing left in tennis to gain an advantage over the majority of tennis players who are right handed.
Is that true?

Re: Milos Raonic

Also Milos defeated Llodra and Verdasco (twice both), I think the problem is he's not well adapted to the surface yet. In my opinion It's true that a lefty has some advantage against right handed players, but don't believe it can be a decisive factor

I think it is the combo of lefty and the clay, which is really putting a ton of pressure on his 2nd serve. On hardcourts, his 2nd serve still gives him an advantage in the point, whereas on clay, he is getting more into 50/50 rallies. Add a lefty on clay, and instead of the return being a high backhand, it is a high forehand, and he isn't even starting the point 50/50. He has had numerous matches on clay where his (first serve %) x (% pts won on first serve) was higher than his (% pts won on 2nd serve).

Re: Milos Raonic

here's his draw in Halle:

[8] Milos Raonic (CAN) - Pablo Andujar (ESP)
Tobias Kamke (GER) - Julian Reister (GER)
Andrey Golubev (KAZ) - Daniel Gimeno-Traver (ESP)
Philipp Petzschner (GER) - [4] Mikhail Youzhny (RUS)

the biggest obstacles there are kamke and petzschner. I think he could make the QF but i would also see him going out to kamke..in any rate that 2nd round would be a re-match of the granby challenger which tobias won in straights last year

obviously things have changed alot since last year but tobias obviously knows how to play on grass since he made the 3rd round of wimbledon last year...that and the germans always seem inspired to play so much better than they usually do when they play here here

Re: Milos Raonic

Milos is lucky to get a seed, thanks to Söderling pulling out. Andujar isn't a bad place to start - I see that he has only played 3 matches on grass in his career and lost all of them. (I didn't realize you could get up to #48 in the rankings playing almost exclusively on clay!).

Re: Milos Raonic

His draw is good enough to meet with Berdych later on.

Re: Milos Raonic

Great draw - QF should be a minimum.

Like someone else said here a few days ago though, I'm not convinced its a slam dunk Milos will be a beast on grass. His return of serve is definitely not his strong point and you can't win every tie-break. I don't expect a huge amount of success this year on grass

Re: Milos Raonic

yeah, i agree with you. Im not completely convinced that he will be as good on grass as everyone seems to think. Sure its faster wo it will help his serve be more effectiuve but at the same time it will expose his movement and ROS

Re: Milos Raonic

Good draw for the first round and I'm not looking ahead until the first match is over.

Predicting how far he should go or anything like that is premature. Didn't do him any good in the French.

And besides, it's his first time in an ATP grass court

Re: Milos Raonic

Good to see Milos get a seed in Halle, looks like he's got some winnable matches, but it's hard to be too sure about how he'll do on grass, seems like he should do well, but who knows. In particular, movement on grass sometimes seems to catch players out, so in that respect it's good he'll open against a guy with the same level of experience. Kamke or Reister in R2 should be a significantly tougher ask, though.

Re: Milos Raonic

Hey Canuckstans,

I guess it looks like Milos is playing on Tuesday.

Good news is that I just checked out livescorehunter and there seems to be streams for Halle. It's been awhile since we've actually been able to see a Milos match.

Re: Milos Raonic

I'm a few days late with this post, but we just passed the one-year anniversary of Milos' first victory at the Challenger level (June 1). Hard to believe how far he has come since. Needless to say, none of us celebrating his victory then were expecting him to have won an ATP title and to be seeded at a grand slam within a year.
