British Men at Wimbledon

Main Draw 2016 (Ranking 13 June 2016)
121 (WC) Liam BROADY GBR (ATP 234)
122 (WC) Dustin BROWN GER
124 (WC) Alex WARD GBR (ATP 246)
125 (WC) James WARD GBR (ATP 178)
126 (WC) Brydan KLEIN GBR (ATP 275)
127 (WC) not awarded
128 (WC) not awarded

Qualifying 2016
120 (WC) Ed CORRIE GBR (ATP 357)
121 (WC) Lloyd GLASSPOOL GBR (ATP 307)
122 (WC) Daniel COX GBR (Wild card Play-off place)
123 (WC) Marcus WILLIS GBR (Wild card Play-off place)
124 (WC) Joe SALISBURY GBR (Play-off semi final)
125 (WC) Daniel SMETHURST GBR (Play-off semi final)
126 (WC) not awarded
127 (WC) not awarded
128 (WC) not awarded

Cameron Norrie, Brydan Klein, Liam Broady, Ed Corrie, Lloyd Glasspool and Marcus Willis are sure candidates for main draw wild cards in my opinion.

Again Alex and James Ward make no sense for main draw. They should play the Playoffs. Last year the semi-finalists of the 16 players got also a wild card for qualifying (Salisbury/Smethurst).

Joshua Milton was behind Corrie the next Briton on ATP 440 and No.1-seed in the Playoffs.

This year the playoffs will be held on 22-23 June 2017.

Does anyone know, why five wild cards were not awarded last year?

By the way, Dustin Brown doesn´t need a wild card this year

PS: I would like to see Daniel Altmaier at the qualifying

The Wimbledon committee made a brave decision that after too many years of British players getting numerous WC's into Wimbledon (and the other grass court events) and not taking advantage of them that they would bring in selected criteria for the players to achieve before they would be considered for a WC. I know that Jamie Baker refused a MD WC in his last Wimbledon to play the qualifying event (he got to the 2nd round of qualifying). They also introduced the qualifying playoffs to allow players a last chance to achieve a QWC by beating other lower ranked British players.
If the WCs are not given out then the places go to the next alternative on the entry lists.
I think Marcus Willis is the first man to go from the pre-quals into the MD.
Stiban likes this.

"If only we were amongst friends... or sane persons!" Janet Weiss
"I tell all and know nothing" Mumsie from The Crystal Maze
"I've only ever had one argument. It started when I was four, and I'll tell you when it ends" Maude Findlay (Beatrice Arthur)
"He's a very odd young man - writes books - and I - I have heard that he's a - a Communist!
Miss Jane Marple: Oh really, yes, well he must be rather lonely in Chipping Cleghorn."
