Re: GB draws Netherlands

it should be birmingham. its indoors, central and a great venue for it. nobody bothered to watch it in scotland.
we should win given the netherlands are pretty weak atm, but we have a one man team. rusedski wants to play one more home match but he probably won't be able to walk or something and will lose, i mean look at the match against the ukraine, he only won cos of his experience and the dutch players have more experience than the ukranians. murray can't handle the pressure of being the one who has to win. henman got on with it, murray will just whinge and moan. he wants to give the other youngsters a chance, fair enough, but in an easier match. BRING BACK HENMAN.

Apparantly he does so 'cautiously'

Good to have Tim back, but hopefully we won't have to require his prescene for too many more years.

Re: GB draws Netherlands

henman will be around for another 2 years, then will step down and leave it to the young guns to lose

Re: GB draws Netherlands

after murray, henman and to a lesser extent rusedski, none of the other players can compete at a high level in davis cup. bogdanovic is a half decent player, but he is as thick as shit and when it comes to davis cup he plays shit and doesnt care. and i just can't see who is going to be the next to make a breakthrough and step into the second singles position

Re: GB draws Netherlands

Davis Cup Squad Announced: BBC Link

Andy Murray
Tim Henman
Richard Bloomfield
Greg Rusedski
Jamie Baker
Jamie Murray

It's pretty much a definite that Andy will play two singles matches, and if the match is tight then Tim may be forced to play two as well. Probably the most interesting question is who will partner Jamie Murray (who should be a cert.) in the doubles? The obvious answer is Andy but Lloyd may not want to have him play 3 matches over the weekend, especially considering Andy's fitness and injury susceptibilities.

Overall though the squad looks pretty strong in comparison to the one that turned out for the tie against the Ukraine.. Andy should win both of his matches, and I would think that they are looking fairly strong in the doubles category. However even if that is lost, it would be expected of Tim at least to be able to muster up one good result out of a possible two.

Hopefully it will turn out to be a good weekend for British tennis

Re: GB draws Netherlands

that squad is a joke. the murray brothers, henman and baker deserve to be there. but rusedski who has played and lost 1 match all year should not be in. he should have retired by now, he has nothing left to give, and will most probably lose to everyone on the dutch team. james auckland should be in to play doubles wit murray senior

Hmm...even though I'm a fan of Baker, I think that Richard deserves to be in the squad more than he does.

And I agree with you about Rusedski, but I wouldn't bring in Auckland. Jamie and him haven't played together in a while, and didn't have great success together. Therefore I have no idea who could be brought in to replace Rusedski..logically it would be Bogdanovic, but that waste of space doesn't even deserve a look in.

Re: GB draws Netherlands

auckland has had some experience of the higher level, especially after the tournament last year i think mumbai or something where he took tursunov to 3.

its obvious rusedski is only in to play any dead singles rubber there may be and bloomfield would be the same. so it makes sense to have auckland, who is more of a doubles specialist in as well

Re: GB draws Netherlands

Bogdanovic - a waste of space! Hmmm...

He's struggled in Davis cup yes, but was badly injured last time out and reached 114 last year.

Hardly the ranking of a waste of space!

he cant handle the pressure of the davis cup because of his diminished mental capacity

Even though Lloyd is playing it down, Andy is susceptible to injuries..hopefully he'll be ok.

As an ATP player he isn't a waste of space...

But as a Davis Cup Player... His last performance against Israel was shockingly poor, he just collapsed and didn't seem to show the attitude of a man desperate to win at any cost for his country.
