Not sure how many of you know of him, but Becker had a very good career at Baylor University (that's in Texas). He now is trying the Challenger Circuit, lost a close match earlier this week to Jeff Morrison (who has beena pro for quite a while). I have E-Mailed with Benjamin a few times, seems like a good guy. Hope he can move up and eventually play some ATP.

Hey guys,

Just read a really great article + interview on Becker on TennisWeek.com... Despite the fact that the guy asked him about the Agassi match twice (alzheimers?), it was really interesting. I didn't know much about his personal life story. He seems really smart and well-spoken.

Great to see him winning in Delray and making the German DC team. I think this kid's gonna be huge this year.

Enjoy

Did he feel some pressure, but did it happen something 3th set? 1-6...
Unfortunately the last match of the encounter between Germany and Croatia wasn't shown on German tv and therefore I don't know what happened in Bennis match against Cilic.

He mentioned after his match against Ljubicic that he was nervous because of his first match in DC and the whole situation.

I think it is always hard to concentrate for a match when the encounter of DC has already been decided and maybe Benni was just a bit lost in thoughts in his last match.

Yes, I agree. It is so difficult to keep calm first time in DC.

Tennis Week: Age you started playing tennis?

Benjamin Becker: "Eight."

Tennis Week: First tennis memory?

Tennis Week: Tennis inspiration?

Benjamin Becker: "Boris Becker."

Tennis Week: Favorite all-time player?

Benjamin Becker: "It's a tough one. The one I followed the most was Boris Becker, so I would have to say him. I was also a fan of Sampras and Federer now. So I don't really have one guy. But Boris was my inspiration. [Did you meet him yet?] No."

Tennis Week: Best match you've seen?

Benjamin Becker: "The best match that comes to mind is the recent one I watched — Moya and Baghdatis in Sydney."

Tennis Week: Pre-match meal?

Benjamin Becker: "Pasta with tomato sauce."

Tennis Week: Pre-match superstition?

Benjamin Becker: "I only tie my shoes on the court [smiles]."

Benjamin Becker: "French toast."

Tennis Week: Toughest part of being a pro tennis player?

Benjamin Becker: "The travel. And being by yourself."

Benjamin Becker: "I like all kinds, but bands — Guns 'N Roses, Metallica, and I like a little rap."

Tennis Week: Favorite film?

Benjamin Becker: "Scarface."

Tennis Week: Last book you read?

Benjamin Becker: "It was actually Angels & Demons from Dan Brown."

Tennis Week: What car do you drive?

Benjamin Becker: "I don't own a car [smiles]."

Tennis Week: Where do you train?

Benjamin Becker: "In Miami or in Fort Lauderdale. (What place?) In Key Biscayne or on public courts in Pompano Beach."

Tennis Week: Training routine?

Benjamin Becker: "Usually two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon. With some fitness involved too."

Tennis Week: Toughest man you faced?

Benjamin Becker: "Federer."

Tennis Week: Why?

Benjamin Becker: "He's too good."

Tennis Week: Last place you went on vacation?

Benjamin Becker: "I went on a cruise a year ago. We stopped in Mexico, Florida and we stopped in Cayman Islands."

Tennis Week: If you had to miss the next Slam, who would you like to see win it, if you couldn't play?

Benjamin Becker: "French Open, I would like to see Haas win it. Because he's German. [You're friends?] We'll see, maybe I will be but I don't know him that much because I just started playing. I always go for the Germans, so hopefully he can win it."

I think this dude is freaking amazing. Although he lost to Ljubijic at the Davis Cup, he was busting out inside-out forehands, lobs and great court positioning. To me, because of the way he takes the ball early and places the ball so well, he reminds me a little of Martina Hingis. I throw that comparison around a lot, but aside from some of Ben's shots, the way he positions his body when he prepares to strike the ball resembles Hingis' preparation before hitting the ball. I'm a fan. And it's even more impressive that this is only his second or third year on tour. :worship: *applause*
