Re: Benjamin Becker

Benni hasn't had very good results on clay as expected, with a win vs. the young Tomic in Monte Carlo and this week a 3-set win over Robert in Munich as his only victories on the surface this season. He lost 6-4 6-0 to Hajek in the second round and is off to Madrid for next weeks event.

Hopefully he can get at least one win, that would be good points for him to have 2 wins in clay masters series events this season. Good luck in Spain Benjamin!

Re: Benjamin Becker

I certainly didn't expect him to be bagelled by Hajek, I saw the end of his first round and thought he was playing well, better than I expected from him on clay! Robert wasn't that bad.

They asked the other day on the tournament website to send questions for a kind of chat with Benji, but I can't find his answers anywhere?

I have no expectations for Benji on clay. No loss is a surprise for me. Hajek is a clay court specialist, so not a huge surprise, especially with how slow and heavy the court is playing.

I hope the tournament website isn't hiding Benni or not showing his video, hopefully it's just an error or we will need to get to the bottom of that

Re: Benjamin Becker

Here is Benni's draw at Madrid:

Federer - Bye
Moya - Becker
L. Mayer - Benneteau
Granollers - Wawrinka

Moya has not played much for the last year with an assortment of injuries and is on his last legs, so it is a good opportunity to get another win at a clay Masters Series event. If he gets through that, the match with Roger playing as poorly as he is right now may be interesting, at least just to see if Roger has improved any from previous weeks. Benji has little chances beating Roger on clay regardless of his Roger's form.

Good luck in Spain, Benjamin!

Re: Benjamin Becker

Ben plays the 4th match on the center court tomorrow vs. Moya, a night match. It's going to be televised too, so hopefully he can give a good account of himself, as Carlos is a big favorite and is sure to get plenty of support.

Good luck, Benni!

Re: Benjamin Becker

Benni won 6-0 6-2 over Moya in an hour and three minutes. He played well and Carlos was sadly a shadow of a shadow of his former self. But Benji did a good job taking advantage of the situation and made the most of his favorable draw.

He plays Roger tomorrow now, let's see if he can pull off the huge upset! He's the third match on the center court. Hopefully he keeps it competitive and gives a good account of himself, and who knows, with Roger playing as poorly as he has been, maybe Ben can make a match of it.

Good luck tomorrow Benjamin!

Benji will play a qualifier in the 1st round in Washington, then could face Roddick in the 2nd if he wins

Re: Benjamin Becker

I believe *not certain* he has shoulder/elbow issues. In any case, clay isn't his surface, so it's best he gets fit, and can come back on grass if that's the best option for his future health.
