Tommy should be a complete banker - you can't can let him out... even when he had ongoing back problems he has beaten almost all opponents (except Mirnyi one time) he "had to beat". And playing against South Africa, he won't get a #15 of the world. So he should get the trust for sure.
Kiwi very much underachieved in indoor season. I hope that doesn't mean he has lost his complete indoor strength. He is normally strong there and likes the kind of game. I don't have too much trust in him playing yet, his Davis Cup record is still poor. But neither do I have more confidence in Rainer.
Doubles with Haas and Waske should remain. I would also like to see Schüttler/Kiefer. Basically I think they could try a lot, if they don't "oaf around" (sorry for this Safin fans expression *g*) they shouldn't rely on doubles anyway. But normally I don't see too much sense trying something new with Waske/Schüttler or Waske/Kiefer or Kiefer/Haas. But as I said, they should be able to afford it in this tie because I hope it's not going to end 3-2 or 2-3 but more convincing.
A dead rubber... Waske playing singles would be nice
I just hope they don't do any silly stuff there. As we all know, Davis Cup is said to have its own laws (like national Cup matches in soccer when amateur teams upset pro teams
), especially since it will be an away game.
Ferreira offered his help to play and he is on four man team. Not sure if they really let him play, South Africa should look into this with long view prospect. What's going to happen if Ferreira can help them this week? Next tie they are again all on themselves alone and will face an at least equally strong opponent.
Germany, just slam the fucking door 3-0 after the 2nd day and make it easier for yourselves!
Then we don't have to sweat it out.
