Not sure if this is right. Actually the coach of the German football team does make a lot of changes and the people rip him into pieces for that and always find something to critisize, such as for trying new training methods, ditching old assistent coaches, swapping Kahn and Lehmann in the goal for #1, making a new headquarter where the team stays during the tournament... that's actually a lot of changes.

Like you say, Kühnen will much more likely go for the established ones, even if they currently suck, instead of trying some new players who are more succesful, but running the risk they could have a bad day and then being critisized for that: "hey, why did you let such a guy play his first Davis Cup mach in this a decisive moment?!" or whatever questions. I'm sure he thinks back with horror as he let Mayer make his debut against Slovakia in the final rubber and some people even suggested Waske would have been the better choice
