David Prinosil (GER) ends his tennis career

Prinosil: "It's over now"

Former German Davis Cup player Davis Prinosil ends his career after his 1st round loss to Fish in Halle.

"Maybe I will play a few doubles, but my singles career is over".

"I'm having since longer time problems with my back. I can't practise hard anymore, so it has no use to continue playing if your body is not fit" said Prinosil.
"I've always said that, after my tennis career, I will do all these things that I couldn't do the last 14 or 15 years."

I wish him much fun enjoying his retirement

some career achievements:

career singles titles:
  • 2000 Halle (grass) -- entered the tournament as a wildcard beating Krajicek in the final
  • 1996 Ostrava (carpet)
  • 1995 Newport (grass)

singles finalist:
  • 2000 Moscow
  • 1999 St. Petersburg
  • 1998 Copenhagen

doubles titles:
  • 2001 Washington (with Damm)
  • 2000 Moscow (with Bjorkman)
  • 2000 Copenhagen (with Damm)
  • 1999 Vienna (with Stolle)
  • 1998 Ostrava (with Kiefer)
  • 1997 Long Island (with Ondruska)
  • 1993 Long Island (with Göllner)
  • 1992 Umag (with Vogel)
  • 1992 Rotterdam (with Göllner)
Prinosil's highest doubles ranking was #12 in August 2001.
Prinosil also reached the Australian Open doubles final in 2001 with Byron Black.
His best Grand Slam singles result was the 4th round in Wimbledon 2000.

Prinosil got an Olympic bronze medal together with Marc-Kevin Göllner in Atlanta 1996 and reached the Quarterfinal with Tommy Haas in Sydney 2000.

sure, he was never a top player, but a likable player for me and at least he could get some titles in singles and doubles

byebye, Prino!

Re: David Prinosil (GER) ends his tennis career

Wow, I remember him still winning titles recently out of nowhere. I also remember his name being in many draws and his name stood out and was memorable. He was also good in doubles. I wish him a great retirement and next chapters in his life.

He certainly had a nice career. I remember him reaching the Wimbledon Round of 16 all those years back and also his run at the Sydney Olympics. The best of luck to him.

Re: David Prinosil (GER) ends his tennis career

Thanks Neely. I wondered if someone would start a goodbye thread.

I read on the Gerry Weber site that he had played his last singles match and this would be his last year in doubles.

He was always a threat on a lighting quick surface, and gave me some thrills during his career.

to one of the unheralded ones who made the tour a better place.

Re: David Prinosil (GER) ends his tennis career

yeh, Prinosil really had his great hurrah in Halle, coming out of no-where to win, yet that was ultimately his peak, yet one cant say he didnt do anything. Good luck to him I say.

Re: David Prinosil (GER) ends his tennis career

Thanks Neely for the fitting tribute. He was always a very likable player. He was one of the last out and out serve volleyers of his generation and when on form he was a dangerous fast court player. I enjoyed his way of playing and I will miss him. I hope he stays involved in tennis in some way too.

Happy Endeavours David!

With each passing season, I discover new reason
SAMPRAS --> Rios --> KUERTEN --> Kafelnikov -->
Federer --> Hewitt --> RODDICK --> GONZALEZ -->
NALBANDIAN --> Benneteau --> Davydenko --> Mathieu -->
TURSUNOV --> Mantilla --> KIEFER --> NADAL -->
Karlovic --> Odesnik --> Stepanek --> Monfils -->
??

Re: David Prinosil (GER) ends his tennis career

He has had a good career, so he should be happy with his performances in both singles and doubles. I liked him a lot as a grass court player, though he was not charismatic enough to ever become one of my favourites.. I hope he enjoys his spare time and I hope he sticks around for some doubles matches!

Re: David Prinosil (GER) ends his tennis career

he had a great career and its amazing that he only won 3 titles. i didnt see him all his career but i thought he'd won a lot more than that. Im pretty sure i saw him play doubles in Atlanta in 1996. and there too he seemed better than any of these stats show him to be.

anyway, goodbye David.
