Draw
1 USC vs 16 Tennessee
8 UCLA vs 10 Duke
4 Georgia vs 13 California
5 Florida vs 12 Pepperdine
--------------------------
6 Kentucky vs 11 Texas A&M
3 Ohio State vs 14 Texas
7 Baylor vs 9 Stanford
2 Virginia vs 15 Auburn
Yeah I like Virginia. Always such a good indoor team. There will be so many good 2nd rounds here. Georgia-Florida will decide who the frontrunner is in the SEC, UCLA will try to scare USC, if the Bruins get past Duke, Kentucky-Ohio State will determine who is for real outside the big 2, and Baylor/Stanford (probably Stanford) could give Virginia some trouble. It will e interesting
Posible upsets are Pepperdine over Florida. Florida is much deeper so the Waves will have to play well at 1-4 and doubles. But it is possible because Fanselow and Tearney are strong at the top.
UCLA vs Duke is the most interesting first round matchup. I give UCLA the edge due to their stronger players than Duke in the 4-6 parts of the line-up. It's more likely that Thompson can beat Mengel at the top than it is likely that Tahir and Hemmeler can beat Puget and Mkrtchian
Scores are here. It's 1-4 in the semis, Ohio State with the closest call in the quarter. Strong singles performance by Georgia to beat Florida after dropping the doubles point
Mitchell Frank def Bradley Klahn 7-6(6) 6-3 in a titanic singles tilt. For a while it actually looked liek Stanford was in control, but UVA turned it on and swept singles.
Ohio State up 1-0. This is one of the closest matches I have ever seen, every one of the singles matches are at 5-all at least. Kobelt putting in the performance of his life vs Frank he's up 7-5 2-2.
And down go the Cavs. Wow. Domijan and Frank can be blamed. Maybe the top 5 is more even than we thought? USC's win wasn't exactly convincing, albeit it was 4-1
darklucia you should edit the title of this thrad to announce the upset and the pending final.
Major props to the Buckeyes today. One of the more impressive performances I have seen in a while. Every match was so tough and nail close in the 1st set. Nobody blinked. Kobelt became a legend today, from a #3 sacrifice stack to a player who knocks off the #1 player in the nation in 2 tight sets. Kept expecting Frank to make a move but never could.
Rola did a great job at #2 rallying from 5-3 down in the 1st to give OSU 3 first sets, but it looked like Hanfmann was too tough at 5 for the Trojans. I must say OSU doubles is the real deal. They've always been dominate over the years at doubs
USC should have put Quiroz at 6. Almsot cost them. Yes he got killed by Pasha but still he could have beaten Smith I think.
All these teams are so clos. Ohio State made the finals but nearly lost to UK in the quarters. Georgia gave a good fight vs USC. It would have likely ended 4-3 had it been played out.
