Re: 2011 Regular Season - #5 Texas def #10 Texas A&M 4-3; #1 Rhyne Williams loses

straitup and anyone else, to keep up wih the latest results periodocally check this page

Lots of big results the past 2 days. I will updtae fully tomorrow as well as a in depth report of what I saw in person in the Clemson match.

But what you need to know right now:

21 Georgia Tech stuns rival 11 Georgia 4-3. UGA took the doubles point, so it was assumed that UGA would roll. In a surprise UGA was dominated at 1 and 2. Garrapiz and Spencer were beaten in straigth sets by Gomez and Spir.

GT clinched at court 6 in a dramatic 7-5 3rd set. The match lasted 5 hours and it broke UGA's 24 match win streak over GT dating back to 1988.

(gt players in gold, UGA players in red)

1: 12 Gomez def 53 Spencer 7-5 6-3
2: 48 Spir def 13 Garrapiz 6-3 6-4
3: 47 Doumbia def Potvin 6-2 6-3
4: Bernstein def King 3-6 6-2 6-1
5: Ortiga def 119 Pieters 7-6 6-3
6: O'Brien def Taboada 4-6 6-3 7-5

Georgia Tech has 5 seniors in their top 6. This is their year if they will ever have one. They are looking like a solid top 20 maybe 15 team. They will challenge for 2nd in the ACC.

Illinois also defeats Florida 4-3. Two huge wins for the Illini. Nevolo clinched at #1 after beating Lacroix 6-0 in the 3rd set. That's the 2nd time this year he has beaten a top 5 player 6-0 in the 3rd.

3 Tennessee def 14 Duke 7-0: 4 matches split sets. 3 were decided by 10 point breakers. So it was a tougher contest than the 7-0 score indicates.

8 Stanford def 18 Cal 5-2: Revenge from last year when Cal beat Stanford. However Zerbini(Cal) upsets Klahn 7-5 7-5 at #1 singles

5 Texas def 26 Florida State: Another heartbreaker for the Seminoles. They can't quite close the door on big wins. Not a good showing by Texas despite the win. at #1 Ed Corrie was dismantled 6-0 6-1 by Vahid Mizradeh. And at #3 Ben Chen was smashed 6-0 6-0 by Blake Davis.

Re: 2011 Regular Season - #21 Georgia Tech shocks Georgia, 4-3;#16 Illinios def. 12UK

I attended the Clemson/Marquette match last Saturday(I go to every Clemson home game and will go to a couple away ones later). We won 5-2 after losing doubles.

I mainly watched #6, Juan Bolona vs Thibault Troube. I find Bolona our most enterianing player to watch. He lost 2-6 6-2 6-4. Purest ball striker off the forehand side on the team but a major headcase. On match point for Troube, Bolona hit a slice that was inches wide that Troube called wide a little late. Bolona knew it was out but still made a fuss about it like it was the reason he lost, then chucked his racquet to Timbuktu and refused to shake his opponents hand. This warranted a point penalty that was carried over to the last match playing on court 4, where Gerardo Meza was in a 10 point tie-breaker. Unfortunately Bolona will unlikey shake his volatile attitude which is why he is low on the team.

Also Clemson gets Ayrton Wibowo from Indonesia. He played at Auburn-Montgomery last year. 2 spots below Sadio Doumbia most of the time. So I do not know where he will be or even if he is eligible this year. He has been at the matches but not suited up. Just added to the roster. He is probably a redshirt this year.

Hey Justin, Utah got a big win over 48 Denver 5-2. That will probably mean Utah will be in the top 75 next poll. Of course Denver sucks this year, they are only ranked that high becuase of last year's success.

That's a big one. Hopefully Wake can give Tennessee a scare. Maybe Tennessee will be down after getting trounced by UVA.

#22 Auburn continues their amazing season and goes on the road and beats the #17 Texas Tech Brazilians 4-3! 7-6(5) 3rd set clincher for the Tigers on #3.

#30 Va Tech barely got by Brown 4-3

Pepperdine trounces Notre Dame 4-0 and then pounds Auburn 4-0 to win the tournament that those teams were in. Can the Waves be a threat? Looks like a possible team feature for them soon.

Texas Tech also beat Notre Dame 4-0. Absolute slaughters on courts 1-3. Dissapointing showing from Notre Dame
