It surprises me how little effort is put in by the tennis establishment to find out about players's fan bases - untapped marketing potential and they seem eager to profit. Guille of course has a lot of young female fans, but he has many male fans and older female fans as well. Many people admire him more for his tennis than anything else. This was apparent watching him play at USO - crowd support came from many different types of people, and was more broad-based for him than his opponents IMO in R32 and R16.
I'd be curious to see how it breaks down, but it seems like no one bothers to try to find that out. I don't think the forums are a good representation of a player's overall fan base, just an indication of those who post on such sites. I suspect a great number of Guille's fans have no idea these forums even exist and wouldn't post on them even if they did know.
