Coria wants to play the Masters of Houston
"If I qualify I'll play it", said the Argentine, who is recovering of a shoulder surgery. The tournament starts on Nov. 15 and calls together the 8 best players of the Champion Race.
While he's accelerating his recovering process, Guillermo Coria is already thinking about coming back to courts, and at a deep interview with DPA, he doesn't discard the possibility of playing the Masters of Houston in November. "If I qualify I'll play. But I'm not obsessed. It would be a pleasure to end this year playing some games. My tennis level won't be enough to face those "beasts" that will be there, but, at least, it would be enough to get into a court and play". He said in Barcelona.
"It would be very possitive. I would see, since the first match, how I feel. I don't want to risk my recovery. I know that I must be smart and don't try to win a match or the tournament, no matter how competitive it is. But I want to be there to say that everything's come out fine".
Angel Ruiz Cotorro, Coria's doctor, also agrees that Coria might be in Houston: "it would be a good sign, as long as he takes it easy. Since tomorrow we'll train in a court with real racket and balls. Up to now, he's just played (*against a wall) with a ball without pressure and a special racket".
If he doesn't qualify for the last tournament of the season, Coria thought of another possibility: "I see that Southamerican Challengers are being played again, and I want to play doubles in Argentina to give the tournament a little push. I'm analysing it. Single is harder, but I'd like to play doubles. It's fantastic that these tournaments are back, because all of us come from the Ericson Cup, players like Massu, Gonzalez, me, David, Horna, all of us.... I wish I could organize big tournaments in the future, like Martin Jaite does. That's why I want to start with small players to see how it is", he finished.
