Re: Grigor on Grass: 2012

He's obvious a lot less experienced in terms of dealing with extremely windy condition than Nalbandian. Let's see what he can do here...

1 set Nalbandian, what a mug match with a lot of service breaks! I hope he finds somewhat of a rhythm in the second! Good luck!

Re: Grigor on Grass: 2012

shame :/

sad thing is he gains 90 points. 45 of which he'll lose at wimbledon and another 30 at wimbledon. so he must get a a good draw at wimbledon

Re: Grigor on Grass: 2012

yeah, very unfortunate that smatch on a game ball which he misses but Nalby was a better player and result is logical! I hope he has a better draw at Wimbledon than last year, though...

Re: Grigor on Grass: 2012

It's been a good week. I like the finish. Don't want the result to be ahead of his overall game, like winning by luck or something like that. He could get carried away. His popularity exceeds his achievement already but we can't blame him for being cute & nice, right?

He defended the 45 points from Eastbourne and he will lose another 45 at wimbledon. Here he won 90 points, so everything he win at Wimbledon this year will be plus Hopefully he will finally have some good draw at Grand slam for at least reaching Round 3 But knowing his "luck" with draws at times when he is in good shape I expect a Top 10 player in round 1 Lets hope I'll be wrong!

Re: Grigor on Grass: 2012

you get 10 for first round loss which he is guaranteed, so its should say 35 but yes the 90 points will provee really usefull for entry lists to atp tournaments in the near future. hoping top 50 by end of year

Re: Grigor on Grass: 2012

It's a shame he lost but Nalbandian dealt with the terrible conditions better. It's been a good week and he should go into Wimbledon with some renewed confidence. For those not in the UK, he has developed quite a following here this week. The BBC have been promoting him heavily, interviewing him more than any other player and he has been a massive crowd favourite. Depending on the draw, he stands a good chance of been considered for one of the show-courts at Wimbledon, even if he isn't playing a seed.

Re: Grigor on Grass: 2012

really? that is very strange? why the British media hype him so much? He doesn't get a lot of coverage here in fact very rarely only in the sport sites and tennis sites. He rarely get more than a one sentence TV coverage particularly in the sport news when they announced his result be there win or loss...
only interviews are taken when he is in Bulgaria which is 1-2 times per year...

I don't mean he has been featured on the national news or anything but the BBC broadcasts this tournament for about 8 hours every day and since Murray went out, he has been the most discussed player.

All the commentators have been talking him up as a potential future star if he can get mentally tougher and saying how much the tournament director has believed in him since he was a junior. They have shown an interview of him before each match and interviewed him again after his wins. They've made a big deal about how popular he is with the crowds and especially the ballgirls. They also love the fact that he says London is his favourite city and how easy he is to interview. Murray's early exit has been Grigor's gain because normally they fixate on Murray but this year they couldn't do that so the BBC have really promoted Grigor as the star of this tournament.

Re: Grigor on Grass: 2012

I see Grigor is not playing men's doubles at Wimbledon, so I really hope he and Tsveti Pironkova will team up for mixed doubles and made some practice before the Olympics

Worth pointing out that he jumped from 99 to 70 in the ATP Race Rankings with his queens performance. Up to 65 in the World Rankings also!

1 week to go!
