The draw for the 2011 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group play-offs, which will take place the same weekend as the World Group semifinals on 16-18 September, was held today at the International Tennis Federation’s headquarters in London.

The winning nations in the World Group play-offs qualify for the 2012 World Group, while the losing nations will compete in their respective Zonal Group I competitions in 2012.

Seedings for the draw were based on the latest ITF Davis Cup Nations Ranking, which measures a nation’s success over the last four years of the competition and is published following every World Group round.

World Group Play-offs Draw

Romania v CZECH REPUBLIC
RUSSIA* v Brazil
ISRAEL* v Canada
South Africa* v CROATIA
CHILE v Italy
Japan v INDIA
Belgium v AUSTRIA
Australia v SWITZERLAND

Nations with choice of ground are listed first. Seeded nations are in capitals. Asterisk (*) denotes choice of ground determined by lot.

Australia vs Switzerland should be a good one if both Hewitt and Federer play for their respective nations!

Re: Americas Zone Group I 2R: Canada at Ecuador (July 8-10, 2011)

canada plays israel in the world group playoff. in israel. i think its not that tough a matchup for canada, we can pull it off if raonic plays. if hes still injured by then we will probably lose.

They should've played the tie in Canada in let's say...at very high altitude on carpet. So...like play at indoor carpet in Whistler, BC or something if possible. That will boost our chances.

I really wanted both Russia and Brazil in the WG. Brazil missed their chance a few years ago in losing to Ecuador. Can't see them beating Russia, the singles should all win for the Russians.

They also shouldn't have lost to India last year, especially after leading 2-0.

Federer |Söderling |most of the Germans

I also like: Wawrinka | Tsonga | Dimitrov | Isner | Gulbis |

Warm regards: 6-3 6-0 / 6-3 6-4

Re: 2011 World Group play-offs

Yeah, but honestly I didn't expect them to beat India. But when leading 2-0, they should have won.

Bellucci and Mello are an OK team but Davydenko, Tursunov, Kunitysn, a combination of these three guys is too tough. Brazil has the doubles advantage, but I can't see them winning any singles rubbers.

I think Japan has a very good chance of beating India, especially since they're at home. Nishikori/Ito in singles is better than what India brings to the table. And a combination of Suzuki/Soeda or something like that is good in doubles too. I'd be surprised if Japan doesn't qualify.

I didn't want Austria or Belgium to be in the WG anymore also. So that's disappointing. IMO, several of the teams that will lose in the final round are better than both teams. I think Belgium will win that tie.

Re: 2011 World Group play-offs

Bellucci can beat both Russian singles players. And our doubles will win too. If Bellucci lost one of his matches, Mello has chances to win his match against Russian's second player.

Re: 2011 World Group play-offs

I think Brazil beat Russia. Bellucci and Mello wins the game at the #2 of Russia, and Brazil wins in doubles

Thomaz Bellucci - Roger Federer - David Nalbandian
Petra Cetkovska
