Re: Еurope/Africa Zone 2, Relegation Play-off Bulgaria - Cyprus

Baghdatis is playing for sure - He received the green light from his doctor (he was complaining about minor injury received during the match vs Djoko at Wimbledon). He started training with the rest of the team. They are flying out to Bulgaria today afternoon (Monday).

With Baghdatis playing and Dimitrov not the crusial match is the doubles match on Saturday. The rest will be 2 wins by Bagdatis and 2 wins by Bulgarians

Bulgaria 0-1 Cyprus

R1: Marcos Baghdatis (CYP) def. Tsvetan Mihov (BUL) 6-1 6-4 6-1

Expected start. Mihov played well in the second, but Marcos got the break at 5-4 and with that the match was over. Next: Dimitar Kutrovsky (BUL) - Phillipos Tsangaridis (CYP)

what a drama it was the doubles!
Enev/Kutrvoski strated very slow and made a lot of mistakes to lose the 1st and 2nd set.
The match really started in the 3rd and was very entertainig and intense. Too bad Dimi and Todor lost their service game at 4-5 in the 5th set  after such a great comeback from 2 sets down! Match was a very good quality, though!

There has to be a livestream from the match today - Markos vs Dimi Kutrovski.
Should be an interesting one. Dimi has no chance beating Marcos, of course, but kid is very enjoyable to wacth of what a saw yesterday!

Does anyone know why dimitrov is not playing for this important play-off?
As far as I know he has a contract wtih his management and is not allowed to chose witch tournametns he can play until he get into top 30. They don't allow him to play Davis Cup, it was that way in March as well. Normaly Grigor wants to play Davis Cup, he likes to play for Bulagria and his father is the coach of the team as well.

He played really good match but had no weapons to hurt Baghdatis. He has to create at least a weapon if he wants to become top 200 player or something like etc. He is consistent with both wing and has fighting spirit.

It's a good write-up about him. (includes an interview)

We had a bad luck playing versus Cyprus ... We can beat a lot of the teams in 2nd Europe/Africa zone and we don't deserve to play on 3rd group next year, but that's the rules. We will crush everyone next year and we will be back in 2013 :)

I am sure he knows this but as said - he does not chose the tournaments, he has no right to  unfortunatelly.
He wanted to play both ties this year but they didn't let him to ...
There were some rumours here that Bulgarian Tennis Federation had payed last year to Mouratoglu accademy so they can let him play. They are thinking he can gain some easy points during the Davis Cup weeks for the ranking and so made him play Newport instead.
