Re: 2011 World Group Draw

Outside of Germany, and maybe Sweden and Austria, expect to see the non-seeded teams fighting for their places in world group.

Hope the Americans get a good draw, and hopefully Argentina does as well to make up for their unfortunate circumstances this year without JMDP and Nalbandian still coming back.

Agree with you.
Germany vs USA could be interesting as it would be in Germany on clay.
For me Sweden is a team who beat actually everyone with a bad doubles team (Croatia, Russia in this case) and lose to the others 3-2 normally.
Austria could be a dangerous opponent, too, but just if Knowle / Melzer play doubles. Otherwise they have probably no chance against those.

Federer |Söderling |most of the Germans

I also like: Wawrinka | Tsonga | Dimitrov | Isner | Gulbis |

Warm regards: 6-3 6-0 / 6-3 6-4

Austria, India, Chile or Rumania would be fine for R1

Draw made for 2011 Davis Cup

The Draw for the 2011 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas was made in Brussels on Wednesday, with the nations competing in the World Group, Group I and Group II all finding out their first round opponents next year.

Having already secured its place in the final in December, Serbia is the top seed in 2011 and has been drawn at home against India in the World Group first round. This year’s other finalist, France, travels to Austria.

In 2010, Serbia has enjoyed its best Davis Cup run and will be hoping to go into next year’s competition as the defending champion. India secured a spot in the top tier with a gutsy 3-2 play-off victory over Brazil, having come back from 2-0 down in Chennai.

France holds an unbeaten record against Austria, winning all seven of their previous meetings. The most recent match-up was a home tie for the French in 2000, which ended in a 5-0 whitewash. Austria recorded a fifth rubber win over Israel to book a place in the World Group.

The most successful nation in Davis Cup history, USA, faces another tricky trip to South America. Having just battled past Colombia in the play-offs, the Americans now travel to Chile in the first round when they will have a new captain in the chair, following the news that Patrick McEnroe has stood down after ten years at the helm.

Last weekend’s beaten semifinalists, Argentina and Czech Republic, have both received home draws against Romania and World Group first-timers Kazakhstan respectively. Meanwhile, Sweden hosts Russia, Spain faces a trip to Belgium and Croatia plays Germany at home.

Re: 2011 World Group draw

Serbia should beat India easily.

Russia-Sweden could be a good match-up, most likely with a 3-2 scoreline.

Kazakhstan could surprise and beat Czech Republic (possibly one of the easiest seeded nations they could have drawn).

Argentina should beat Romania.

Chile-USA is interesting because Chile gets choice of ground... it's likely clay, and we all know how the US (generally) does on clay.

Spain should beat Belgium.

Germany-Croatia should be a close one; I'd say Germany has the upper hand.

Austria-France could be interesting if Melzer (AKA #1 in the world in combined singles and doubles, hehe) plays.

HUEY/INGLOT FTW!
TEAM PHILIPPINES: ARCILLA. ALCANTARA. GONZALES. HUEY. PATROMBON.
DJOKOVIC. NADAL. DEL POTRO.
Garcia-Lopez. Monaco. Nieminen.

Berta. Dzumhur. Baluda. Fernandes.

FITD: Current: 42/178 (18.02.13). Peak: 23/178 (08.10.12).
Suicide Tennis: Current: 67/190 (17.03.13). Peak: 53/186 (08.10.12).

Re: 2011 World Group draw

My predictions:
-Serbia should easily beat India
-Russia vs. Sweden can go either way, it will be by far the most exciting R1
-The Czechs should easily beat Russia #2 Kazakhstan
-Romania will be no match for Argentina
-The US should beat Chile, even on clay since Gonzo won't play...
-Spain should beat Belgium.
-Croatia vs. Germany could be a good one, but Croatia really should win...
-I don't see Austria beating France, unless Melzer plays the best tennis of his life and somehow wins both singles rubbers and the doubles with Knowle or Marach

Marcos Baghdatis Forever!

Through the good and the bad, always my #1, no matter what the rankings say

Re: 2011 World Group draw

my predictions:

serbia v.s india: serbia should roll over india

russia v.s sweden: keep davy from playing soderling, since robin loves playing him and russia could win. Davy, if he plays should beat any other singles player from sweden while robin will probably win both his matches. That leaves doubles...im saying russia

czech republic v.s kazakhstan: assuming radek and tomas are playing well this should be no problem for the czech republic

romania v.s argentina: argentina will have no problem with them, hanescu might be able to deliver a victory if he's not put against nalbandian

united states v.s chile: Us should win since chile wont have gonzo

germany v.s croatia: this is another close one that will probably be a 3-2 like russia v.s sweden but im thinking germany will pull it out.

austria v.s france: jurgen cant win the whole thing himself..or chould he? i dont know but it depends who france has to play, i could see him winning both his singles matches and then it would be left up to doubles...im calling austria for the upset

Re: Dubai Entry List/Fact Sheet (updated January 22, 2011)

Who on earth could withdraw from a 500 just to play DC where there is no money at all !

Most of the players are not really keen on playing DC nowadays.

For instance, despite of winning it last year and defending 505 atp points in DC, Nole said no to Novi Sad R1 DC.

No DC for Federer, Ljubicic probably too...

those who want to play Olympics next year. I think you must have played DC the year prior to Olympics to qualify.

Normal field for a 500 tournament. Dubai used to be a very strong tournament few years ago, almost all top10 played it. Not anymore.

When I'm good, I'm very good...but when I'm bad, I'm better
