Re: Have we seen the best from Murray on clay?

Murray certainly has some strengths that work for him on clay. His movement is pretty good, slides defensively into shots very well and we all know his court speed. His groundstrokes actually work well on the surface, he has some very nice variety on the clay, almost reminiscent of clay courters in the 90s with their variety of pace, spins and touch. On top of that, Murray has a great drop shot.

So really, the biggest problems with Murray in the past has been what goes on in his head and his point construction on the clay when it matters most. The mental aspect definitely has much to do with it, as he does appear to be unsure of himself when a match gets tight on clay whereas on other surfaces, he stays calm throughout. Another example, is his H2H against someone like Ferrer who he has dominated off clay but has struggled to beat David on the dirt.. So we technically witnessed on several matches as some have pointed out, his absolute potential tennis wise on clay, but he just needs to back it up mentally on the biggest points.

Federer / Haas / Safin / Gaudio / Kuerten / Youzhny / Nadal / Gonzalez / Ljubicic / Hewitt / Soderling / Wawrinka / Coria / Nalbandian / Kohlschreiber
