Re: Tennis Austria

It's a good interview, I'm not sure I completely grasped it, but it's good Thank you.
Metz is their next stop
Will they play Vienna or Stockholm or seperate? I didn't get that.

I'm glad they answered my lingering question about the trophy!! They get a small one to bring home.

And I'm glad he's so into his doubles. That's a really bold move, to focus only on doubles. And it's nice to hear that he wants a partner that focuses on doubles like him.

I also didn't understand his weakness

Re: Tennis Austria

Jullian said he needs to make his serve betterm. consistent. Impact is serve in the translation. When I have seen them play it was usually Julian who would get broken. He served great at the Open, but in Cincy every game he and Jurgen lost was because Julian did not hold serve. I think Simon, with his excellent serve and net play, helps Julian be more confident.
Did you see they are now 5th in doubles? Wow - that is so great. He explained that winning the Slam did not necessarily mean they get to go to Shanghi, but because they are ranked above the teams that won other Slams they should continue and get to play there.
Julian is now number 10 and Simon 13 in the doubles rankings.
Great team and I hope they continue to do very well.

Re: Tennis Austria

Yeah, it is great ! ! Plus they are now ranked 10th and 13th in doubles, career highs It's so amazing.
It's because Arnaud & Llodra won the Wimbledon Doubles, but I think they should qualify... They should! =) =) Let's go guys!!

Julian & Simon
I knew they could be one of the best teams even in the beginning, but to see them win a Grand Slam and now maybe become a top team, that's just too awesome to describe

Re: Tennis Austria

They will surely pass team #4, since they are splitting... Hopefully Bjorkman & Mirny ican get in, but it's looking doubtful.

I'm so happy, two of my favorite teams in the top 5 And Mark&Dan, but they're done
It's a good time for me!!

Re: Tennis Austria

Hello!

I took some videos and pictures of Jurgen during the US Open this year. Sorry that there isn't more but he didn't cooperate. He kept looking down so I had to delete about half the videos and pictures.

I put the videos up on youtube - I think that you will like the part where he's putting on his bandana...I did!...kind of sexy.

Re: Tennis Austria

Austria has begun preparing for the Davis Cup. Julian Knowle had to miss the first practice due to a fever. It is expected he will be fine by Wednesday and able to join the team.

Brazil is having lots of problems. Saretta, there number one player, has withdrawn due to an elbow injury and Marcelo Mello, doubles expert, has also with drawn. Marcos Daniel was chosen to replace Saretta. The other replacement has not been named, but Austria's captian believes it will be Kuerten. Kuerten played doubles for them before and also played doubles at the US Open.

That's all the news for now.

Re: Tennis Austria

I posted this in the Oli thread, but figured it ought to go here as well

DOUBLES REVIEW - MARACH-MERTINAK CAPTURE FIRST ATP TITLE TOGETHER
No. 4 seeds Oliver Marach of Austria and Michal Mertinak of the Slovak Republic defeated No. 2 seeds Martin Garcia and Sebastian Prieto of Argentina 7-6(2), 7-6(8) in Saturday's doubles final.
Marach and Mertinak teamed up for the first time and they defeated top seeds Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski in the semifinals. It was Marach's first career ATP title and the fourth for Mertinak, the second of the season (Umag).

Garcia and Prieto were appearing in their seventh career ATP final together (1-6), including their fifth (1-4) of the season. They captured the Buenos Aires title in February and were finalists in Estoril, Bastad and Sopot (all on clay).

WHAT THE PLAYERS SAID:

Oliver Marach: "I'm glad we won our first title together here this week. We took the decision to play together in Bucharest like three or four weeks ago. Unfortunately I was injured before the tournament and I didn't know until a few days before the start of the event if I would be able to play. It went very well here, we beat four good teams. Today was a great match against Garcia-Prieto with a lot of great rallies. I hope that we'll play a few more events together this year and we've already decided to team-up again for a few tournaments next season."

About beating the No.1 and 2 seeds en route to the title: "We played very solid against Fyrstenberg-Matkowski and it wasn't their best day. We played our game and didn't give them the chance to come back into the match. Today it was a very close match, they broke us in the first game and we had to fight back. They played very well and I'm glad we managed to win the two tie-breaks."

That was a great win for Marach and Mertinak.

The schedule of play for the Davis Cup is made.

Friday: Jurgen Melzer plays Belllucci
Stefan Koubek plays Ricardo Mello

Saturday Knowle/Melzer play Sa/Kuerten

I hope Sunday will be dead matches.

PLAY YOUR BEST AUSTRIA
