Re: Tennis Austria

Today I felt it was important for Stefan to win his match. Jurgen had been saying in interviews that Canas was the one to worry about. Since Jurgen depends on his serve so much and it was not working today, I feel that is why he lost. Stefan disappointed me. It seems he just went away after the double fault on set point in the first set. Following the match on the computer makes it hard to understand what is really happening.

I believe that Austria has a good chance at getting two of the final three matches, but I don't think Stefan is good enough to beat Canas. I hope he makes a liar of me.

Good luck Austrians, come back and win it all.

I am for him also and feel so sad he could not win and force the final and deciding match. According to Capt. Schaller, Jurgen was very nervous with all the pressure on hiim and that caused him to lose. Wouldn't it be great if we could find some way to help Jurgen overcome the nerves in pressure matches. He must put all the pressure on himself. I remember reading that at onel point he had a mental coach that helped him a lot. That coach would not travel with him, but it seems he needs someone to make him realize he is good enough to win matches even if he is stressed. He has the talent to win against most players but just not seem to believe in himself enough.

Jurgen is coming to Memphis next and I will get to see him. I just know he is going to do well here.

Re: Tennis Austria

Wow! Today Simon Aspelin and Julian Knowle (AUT reached the quarter finals of the US Open by defeating Elich/Ram. That is a great win for them.
Since pairing up with Simon after Jurgen Mlezer had to stop playing because of his wrist, Julian has done sensationally. He and Simon have won several tournaments. They will probably play the Bryans next. Elich and Ram beat the Bryans in Cincy so we will just have to wait and see what happens next.

Guess what? Today they beat the Bryans 7-5, 6-4. Beating two great teams in a row is so great. Can it continue? They are now in the semi-finals. I would love to get to watch them on TV in the finals.

Go Simon Aspelin and Julian Knowle. You can do it.

Re: Tennis Austria

They're playing Benneteau & Mahut, who beats Damm & Paes, but I think it's a winnable match for them.

I really thought they could win this QF, and I'm so glad I was right. It's such a great tournament for them, straight sets all the way, really good.

I post a lot in the Simon Aspelin cheering thread (to myself a lot ) because I couldn't find a Knowle thread

It's Julian's second SF and Simon's first

And all-together, they had a 22-10 record before this tournament, now it's 25-10. Three tournament wins... but a few bad losses too, but altogether, a very good partnership. Possibly they can qualify for the YEC if they keep showing strong.

They're awesome

I got to meet them in Montreal, too, and they seemed really happy I recognized them. I brought a collage of pictures of them, and Julian signed it twice and even said hi to me when he saw me walking around the grounds. Such a sweetheart

I also got to take a picture with them Unfortunately I didn't see them play, because I wasn't there on the Thursday night session, but I saw them play practice matches =)

I'll stop rambling on now, , I'm being so random saying all this. Sorry

Re: Tennis Austria

Thanks for all the news. I don't think Julian has a thread. He is so nice maybe we should start one.
He was playing with Jurgen Melzer in Memphis when I got to me him. He remembered me when I saw him in Indian Wells and greeted me by name. I am older and he liked to tease me. In Cincy I got to see him again. He still rememebered me which made me very happy. I do not think very many folks know him so he rembers the ones who take time to chat with him.

I is nice to find someone else who is cheering for them. They do make a good team. Some of those bad loses surprise me.

Re: Tennis Austria

Wow! That's amazing Julian
But true, he probably isn't recognize often - he's just not famous
But remembering you over three tournaments, that's just wow!!
I hope I get to see him again, maybe USO 2008 (hopefully I get to go ) or Montreal 2009 if he's still around..

I didn't talk to him enough to tell him my name, and was too shy to ask him any questions - but I think he was appreciative to have a fan, maybe. He's just such a sweetheart, how can I not root for him and Simon? Simon's really nice too. Humble guys
It makes their success at the US Open so much better

SF tomorrow on Grandstand against Benneteau & Mahut. Please win it!!

They won!! 7-6(2) 1-6 6-3
A second GS final for Julian (a first for Simon!)

They'll move up to #7 in the doubles race, and maybe push for a career high ranking!

The win today was wonderful. I am excited to see how well they are doing in the doubles race. Hopefully they will get to play in the year end tournament and be in the top 8.

You get to go to the USO? That sounds great. It is to big for me. I like the smaller ones where you have more contact with the players. In Memphis, neither Jurgen or Julian were known so I was usually just about the only fan watching them play. That is when they took time to chat with me.

Don't the men play in Toronto next year. I want to try and go if they do.
