Re: Jeff Coetzee Thread

Jeff & Wayne lost 4-6, 2-6, being broken a total of three times. Hanley/Ullyett ultimately played too good, and never looked overly troubled on serve. Jeff will now play Nottingham (I am not yet sure with whom though), and then return to Wimbledon with Wayne again. Notts sign-in closes 6pm on Saturday so draw sometime after that. Jeff has no points to defend next week from 2005.

Re: Jeff Coetzee Thread

Jeff seems to be completely recovered from a minor stomach problem, that he picked up on Tuesday sometime. In the mixed doubles draw, he and Ai Sugiyama face Bob Bryan & Venus Williams in the first round. I hung out with Jeff a little today, and ate with him, Rik [de Voest], Natalie Grandin, and a few of their friends.

Re: Jeff Coetzee Thread

Jeff & Wayne were beaten in an extremely tight match against Auckland/Delgado, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, 4-6, 3-6. The match was very well attended, and Jeff had some family at the match (mom, girlfriend + bro). This kind of match must be a huge physical shock to all the players - used to playing a maximum of 2 sets + 10 point match tiebreak, without any deuces. As a result, Jeff was having some problem with his hip, and had treatment at almost every change of ends towards the latter stages of the match. They played some truly great points and hung in there, recovering one of two breaks in the final set, but it was not enough to hold off their opponents. Auckland served extremely well, basically ruling out the possibility of breaking him towards the end.

Re: Jeff Coetzee Thread

Jeff & Ai eventually got on court about 8pm, since Ai's [successful] singles match against Hingis went to three sets. They got on Court 11, which was probably a bit of a scheduling error due to the popularity of Venus Williams, and the size of the seating on 11. Bob Bryan served extremely well, and it is likely both Jeff & Ai were pretty tired - Jeff also felt a little unwell before the match. In the end, Bob & Venus overpowered their smaller opponents 6-3, 6-3 to progress to the second round.

Jeff is now done with Wimbledon, but since per diem will last until Tuesday for him, he will probably stay in London until maybe Wednesday. I would expect him to possibly take a little time at home, and then head to Newport.

I will be sad to see him go But I'm confident I'll make at least a couple of trips to the States or something this summer

Re: Jeff Coetzee Thread

Jeff is playing Newport singles quallies, presumably just to get to hit some balls, incase he had a little break after Wimby.

It seems that way, Cindy. I am surprised Jeff doesn't have more fans. Of the 207 posts in this thread; 189 are mine

Re: Jeff Coetzee Thread

:

Jeff beat Heuberger (currently ranked #255) 7-5, 6-3. They got on Court 4 after all - a few stats for you:
Jeff served at 61% on his first serve, winning 72% of those points. On his second serve, he won 61% of the points also. He convert 4 of 9 break points, and hit a total of 4 double faults.

He will now face #8 seed Michael Russell of the United States, probably tomorrow. Jeff has only ever played Russell once, in a futures main draw in 2001, where he lost 3 & 1 - to the player now ranked #202.

Jeff will play M. Russell first match on Court 3 tomorrow (Sunday) at 11.00am. Doubles: Jeff & Justin G are seeded 3 and face Americans Eric Butorac & Chris Drake in the first round. Good luck!

I really need to get hold of some more photos for the website! The most recent I have are from Aus!! I didn't manage to take any this Grasscourt season, hopefully someone in the States will help me out
