That is one of the most surprising things I have seen in Davis Cup for some time...how is it possible for Nalbandian to be playing Monfils? They are both #1s.

Could be 3-0 France after the doubles.

because the number 1 of Argentina is Monaco. They take the ranking of the week of selection was made and it was during USO.

Ahhhhh, one can learn something new every day. Many thanks for clarifying.

Pity for Argentina as the tie could slip away from them very quickly. I'll be shocked if Monaco troubles Llodra, so Nalbandian will have to rescue Argentina tomorrow...that will be very tricky if Monfils is fit and playing reasonably well. The doubles rubber is France's to lose...Clement & Llodra are a very classy pairing and should get a comfortable win over the overrated Schwank & Zeballos.

At the very worst, France should lead 2-1 going into Sunday...theoretically, Monfils should dispose of Monaco to secure an overall win, although Llodra would still have a chance to win the final point if he isn't too tired from his efforts on Friday and Saturday.

Is Nalbandian fit enough to play all three days? If so, then I would think he and Zeballos could have a good chance of beating Clement/Llodra in the doubles...

Schwank/Zeballos are a VERY good pair :they reached semi at USO so Nalby can rest and save his energy to play sunday. Monaco beat Llodra 2 times in 3 matches...he beat Llodra in AO this year if i'm right...

And Monaco didn´t win a Main Draw match since coming back from injury, he just defeated Jones in 3 sets at New Haven qualies and Indoor hard is also not a good surface for him. He´s a clay-court specialist, nothing more.

Federer |Söderling |most of the Germans

I also like: Wawrinka | Tsonga | Dimitrov | Isner | Gulbis |

Warm regards: 6-3 6-0 / 6-3 6-4

David will once again have to come up big Argentina here. Schwank/Zeballos are a good and underrated pair, but Clement/Llodra are a better pair and are at home. I wouldn't be too shocked if the Argentinian pair won the doubles, though. They will need to win the doubles to have a chance. Argentina doesn't have a legitimate #2 singles option, and that could haunt them. David also could definitely lose to Monfils, which would signal the end of their chances.

France is the definite favorites, but I wouldn't count out Argentina if I were anyone.

Re: World Group 2010 semifinals: Argentina at France (September 17-19, 2010)

Schwank and Zeballos did well to win all those doubles matches at Wimbledon and the US Open, but the only win I'd rate particularly highly is that against Benneteau & Llodra (Wimbledon QF). While tough, the other pairings featured players with particularly suspect returning skills and/or a lack of exceptionally skilled shotmaking...typical 'doubles specialist' combinations.

I don't doubt that they are good, but I do think that it is easy to overrate them.

I'll be very interested to see whether Nalbandian plays a part in the doubles on Saturday. It will be a tough decision, especially as Schwank & Zeballos are a competent pairing...will Vazquez risk splitting them up? Would Nalbandian actually significant boost their chances in that match? I'm not sure that he would tbh. And there is also the problem that Dave plays the 2nd rubber on Friday...that is likely to be a physical match, and he'd have less time to recover. So, whatever the match outcomes on Friday, I'm not too sure whether he'll play the doubles (even if Argentina are 0-2).

Vázquez says Nalbandian won't play doubles. Schwank and Zeballos will.
And Nalbandian says he's glad he doesn't have to worry about doubles and can get some rest on Saturday, instead.

Llodra misses 2 sps for 2-1 sets lead. How can he have so much trouble with Monaco on this surface? Anybody watching?
