If they take the 4th set, it might just be enough momentum to win the 5th and the tie tomorrow.

The Italian pair better not ruin everything. This would be disaster if they lose from such a commanding position.

I think the Swedes are going to win this.

Simone is playing really poorly. Neither team are good returners. And for a doubles specialist team, the Swedes are decent but not great volleyers.

Lindstedt really has raised the level of his game up a lot.

Sweden broke and is serving for the match at 6-5 in the third.

Italy should have taken the third set. They had chance after chance. After that set went away, the better doubles team in Sweden has progressively shown itself.

Congrats to Sweden, good luck in the World Group next year!
If Lindstedt / Aspelin can raise their level the Swedes can be very dangerous against many seeded teams, for example Spain (if the tie is played in Sweden, don´t know atm).

I heard the draw ceremony for World Group 2011 is on Wednesday, am I right?

Federer |Söderling |most of the Germans

I also like: Wawrinka | Tsonga | Dimitrov | Isner | Gulbis |

Warm regards: 6-3 6-0 / 6-3 6-4

Disgusting result. Tie is over. Italy was a few points away from making the world group for the first time in years and blew it embarrassingly. Next.

You aren't kidding. I couldn't believe the high number of missed volleys, some of which didn't seem that difficult.

It was a dramatic match because of the comeback and tight final set, but it wasn't particularly well played. I'm a Sweden fan, so was glad they pulled it out, but feel bad for Italy who had a lot of chances and did a good job in the first 2 1/2 sets. Tough loss for them.

Re: World Group 2010 play-offs: Italy at Sweden (September 17-19, 2010)

Agree, csm. The match was dramatic, but it wasn't particularly entertaining, and the quality was not too good from either side. A lot of bad volleying, bad returning. The only real difference was the fact Italy had singles players and Sweden had doubles players. Not great doubles players, but doubles players nonetheless. Potito was the best player on the court for the first 3 sets but Lindstedt played better as the match went on. Sweden just put too much pressure on the Italians' weak serves. The result was predictable after the third set loss.

Oh well, Sweden are the bigger threat to do damage in the world group, so while I'm disappointed, I didn't expect a victory so, it is what it is.
