This tie will be played in Toronto, on the Grandstand court at Rexall Centre. The last time we hosted outdoors was 2006, when we beat Venezuela in Granby.
Matches will be played on the site’s Grandstand Court, the outdoor hard court
located on the south end of the grounds. The last Davis Cup tie contested
outdoors at Rexall Centre was in 2005 when Canada played host to Belarus,
losing a tough World Group playoff tie that was decided in the fifth rubber.
Similarly, Canada fell in a deciding rubber in the Americas Zone Group I
first-round tie versus Ecuador at the indoor Centre of Excellence at Rexall
Centre in March 2009.
“The past several Davis Cup teams we’ve assembled were comprised of primarily
Ontario players, making Toronto an ideal host city for this tie,” said Martin
Laurendeau, Miele Canadian Davis Cup team captain. “Due to the Davis Cup
calendar, the opportunity to play an outdoor tie does not come around very
often in Canada. We are excited to build off the energy and excitement
surrounding the Rogers Cup events.”
